Students on government of Ghana scholarship in Morocco have described as unprecedented, the measures put in place by the Akufo-Addo government through the scholarship secretarial to improve their conditions of service to facilitate effective learning.
The Ghanaian Students’ Association in Morocco (GHASAM) in a letter of appreciation to the secretariat, signed by its President, Issac Oppong, stated they had wished that the all-important measures had come earlier, “but as the saying goes, better late than never.”
The students mentioned the purchase of flight tickets, well-furnished apartments, two months advance payment of electricity and water tariffs and the organisation of an advance French and Mathematics classes as some of the new measures introduced by the scholarship secretariat.
The student, however, appealed to the government to accept their proposal for a rent allowance to obliterate problems faced with renting.
They also expressed their willingness to support the implementation of the Representation of the People’s Amendment Law and the Ghana Card which has begun.
“The students’ body is energized and ready to support and promote the good image of our beloved country Ghana,” the statement from the students stated.
Not long ago, similar appreciations were expressed by Ghanaian students in Cuba and Algeria after the scholarship secretariat intervened and paid outstanding arrears due them.
When contacted, Registrar of the Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang, said the Akufo-Addo administration, through the secretariat, would ensure that Ghanaian students on various scholarships abroad are duly catered for and that the issue of arrears which used to be a problem in the past, are addressed promptly.

I marvel why people support people found to be corrupt. For me, l keep saying the average Ghanaian is corrupt!! Just try to be anti corrupt at your work place and see how you will be hated.Yet in their own warped eyes they think they are smart. $hithole people!
Overall, the vision amd financial prudence this registrar is showing with regards to payouts to all who are on government scholarship is something we all need to commend amd applaud. These are the kinds of selfless leaders Ghana needs.
I totally agree with Prof. A.K.Appiah. Please help yourselves out there because the government cannot shoulder all the responsibilities. What you guys must realise is that people don't pay enough taxes in Ghana to enable the government to generate enough revenue for all these functions. Equally there are other pressing needs back home that the government needs to attend to with such scanty resources that are available to the government. If all of you complete your studies and you come home to help build the country, that will be fantastic. But I'm very sure most of you will not come to contribute your quota, so we are where we are. Help educate the citizenry & the businesses in Ghana to pay their taxes for more revenue generation to enable the government to do more to help the people.
Guys, look for part-time work to supplement your scholarship allowances. Thanks
