Former President John Dramani is challenging the government to show what it has done with the GHC50 billion it has borrowed since taking over power in January 2017.
Prior to the 2016 elections, the then-opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) slammed the Mahama government for borrowing a total of GHS40 billion over an eight-year period claiming it was wrong.
Addressing delegates of Techiman South Constituency in Techiman on Monday as part of his tour of constituencies in the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr Mahama explained that the money borrowed by his administration was used for massive infrastructure development projects throughout the country.
According to im, there are "visible signs" all over the country of roads, hospitals, schools and rural electrification projects, among many others, which were undertaken by the NDC administration.
The former President said it is important that the Akufo-Addo government accounts to Ghanaians for what it has also used the GHC50 billion for.
Mr Mahama asked what could have prompted the NPP government to borrow a staggering GHC50 billion in less than two years in power, even though there is nothing to show for it.
“So, they should tell Ghanaians what they used the GHC50 billion they have so far borrowed for. Is it for road, hospital, or school, but clearly there is nothing to show”, he added.
Whilst pointing out that the government’s policies have brought untold hardship on Ghanaians, Mr Mahama promised to work hard to reduce the high cost of living in the country as well as provide jobs, when elected in the 2020 elections.
Touching on concerns that he is addressing national issues instead of concentrating on internal NDC issues, ahead of the flagbearership race, former President Mahama said "NDC delegates are also Ghanaians who deserve to know what is happening in the country".

"Its only an *ostrich* and a person with myopic mind who vote because of infrastructure. Infrastructure is a constitutional requirement and every president does them......" Hon.John Mahama 2008..... For now I know 44.4% of Ghanaian voters are ostriches and with myopic brains.... Ah well
I am not an NDC supporter but disposed to the CPP. I believe that, so far, out of the many aspirants, Mr. Goosie is the most credible and well-qualified candidate in terms of political expediency and independence. Though I was very much disappointed when he (Mr. Goosie) visited Rawlings, so to speak, to seek his endorsement irrespective of his past records. For me, Rawlings represent despotism, deceit, lies, and a murder in the NDC. This, indeed, diffuse the Social Democratic Philosophy of the NDC. Then, Goosie parted with the NDC, because of the imposition of Mills' Candidature by Rawlings on the Party, the so-called Sweduro declaration at the time. That notwithstanding, we all saw how Rawlings sought to malign Mills' Administration by pulling-strings with President Mills personally. And Rawlings when he did not get his way he was always at loggerheads with the good Professor throughout his administration till his passing on. I wish Goosie had learned his lessons well with Rawlings and had independently come out with the aim to reform NDC. The state of the NDC to date needs a complete overhaul. The name Mahama and his administration embody corruption and incredibility. Those who surrounded him, the hypocrite cum bootlickers, with their sharp teeth who discredited his administration, are still those facing out to promote him for his candidature to lead the NDC for the second time. The Mahama, I guess, as a person has some inferiority complex, hence feels comfortable to surround himself with low-level young inexperience politicians to do the insulting to overcompensate his attitudinal deficiency.

What NDC considered to be social intervention is the supply of PADS to girls in SHS. What a Shame!
Is NPP truly a capitalist. We in the Private sector are advising ourselves.
A capitalist party NPP is destroying the private sector by introducing nuisance taxes, increasing fuel etc, and now fighting a socialist party NDC on a record of Social intervention.
i wonder what is the meaning of social intervention to NPP? Building social amenities such as schools, hospitals, roads, markets etc.... is it not social invention?
Okay , mention one social intervention program your government provided for this country?
This man is sick
