Former President John Dramani is challenging the government to show what it has done with the GHC50 billion it has borrowed since taking over power in January 2017.
Prior to the 2016 elections, the then-opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) slammed the Mahama government for borrowing a total of GHS40 billion over an eight-year period claiming it was wrong.
Addressing delegates of Techiman South Constituency in Techiman on Monday as part of his tour of constituencies in the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr Mahama explained that the money borrowed by his administration was used for massive infrastructure development projects throughout the country.
According to im, there are "visible signs" all over the country of roads, hospitals, schools and rural electrification projects, among many others, which were undertaken by the NDC administration.
The former President said it is important that the Akufo-Addo government accounts to Ghanaians for what it has also used the GHC50 billion for.
Mr Mahama asked what could have prompted the NPP government to borrow a staggering GHC50 billion in less than two years in power, even though there is nothing to show for it.
“So, they should tell Ghanaians what they used the GHC50 billion they have so far borrowed for. Is it for road, hospital, or school, but clearly there is nothing to show”, he added.
Whilst pointing out that the government’s policies have brought untold hardship on Ghanaians, Mr Mahama promised to work hard to reduce the high cost of living in the country as well as provide jobs, when elected in the 2020 elections.
Touching on concerns that he is addressing national issues instead of concentrating on internal NDC issues, ahead of the flagbearership race, former President Mahama said "NDC delegates are also Ghanaians who deserve to know what is happening in the country".

The desperation of Mahama is forcing him to make all sorts of statements which is exposing a certain level of pedestrianism which is left for foot-soldiers, not somebody who has had the opportunity of being an Assembly member, MP, Dep. Min. Minister, Vice President and President but failed miserably. Perhaps maybe his level of comprehension of the job was at the level of a foot-soldier because it should take a lot for something like this to come from him. First the amount is false. Second, the monies raised from the flotation of bonds is captured in the hansard of Parliament, which is to service debts and to extend the maturation of some, incurred under his watch, for projects but were stollllleeeeennnn. For example the diversion of part of a loan amount for district hospitals and the bloating of contract sum like the SSNIT project to cite a few, and also inspite of IMF measures and a debt to GDP ratio beyond debt sustainability. Such foot-soldierism pedestrian type of talk is not proper unless of course, that is the level he has always found to be comfortable, which does seems to be the case and most unfortunate.
You're so desperate for power. Don't you see yourself being ***barred word*** of a sort? Are there no people around this man to advice him?
Where did this man get his figures from? He's now more like a serial caller than an ex-president.
Does this man think Ghana is for him? How many Ghanaians will get the chance to become President or Vice-President of the country? You were given the chance to become both on a silver platter and you didn't value it much. You're not satisfied....you want to come back again. For what? You failed miserably in 2016 at the hands of your chosen EC Charlotte Osei. How can you dislodge the NPP government now that they are in control of all the resources and institutions in the country? You'll not get 20% of the total votes in 2020. You'll also lose your status as a statesman who'll be called upon to supervise elections in other African countries now that you're competing for another questionable 4-year term. If you lose the flag bearer race, you'll be a disgrace. I'm afraid if you're not careful the results will send you into a depression!
The mountains of debt you incurred on behalf of this country and the accruing exponential interest, are being paid with a huge chunk of these loans you are complaining of.This is why you can't see anything for now. But in due time when the you will see.
JM. DONT TALK WHEN WE COMPLAINED TIMES ARE HARD. NPP WILL SAY WE ARE ALL NDC,NPP NO HOSPITALS, NO SCHOOLS, NO ROADS, NO MARKETS WHEN WE TALK NPP WILL SAY FREE EDUCATION ARE WE NOT GOING TO SCHOOL BEFORE NPP CAME TO POWER?OR ARE WE ALL BENIFITING FROM THE FREE SCHOOL? JM COME 2020 MY VOTE WILL NOT GO TO NPP THIS TIME. EVEN UNDER DOOMSO AM ABLE TO BUY FUEL FOR MY GEN AND STILL SAVE 1,500 AT THE BANK BUT THIS TIME I CANT EVEN SAVE 100. NANA DO SOMETHING OOH TIME IS GOING.
