Minister for Information and Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayerebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has asked the opposition NDC to go to court if they have challenges with the Electoral Commission.
He says it will be "better to do that than to publicly denigrate" the Electoral Commission.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia', programme, he explained that the Electoral Commission is an independent body recognized by international bodies so publicly declaring that the Commission is biased with no evidence has no basis.
He therefore asked Ghanaians to "reject attempts by any group or political party to bastardize the Electoral Commission".
He added that he believes the Electoral Commission has no intention to rig the 2020 elections to favour any party especially the ruling government.
Former President John Mahama has cast doubts over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) ability to conduct neutral general elections in 2020.
Ahead of the election, Mr. Mahama said the EC needed to prove doubters wrong.
“They need to prove us wrong. We have our doubts that they can be neutral and fair . . . the current posture and the way they are conducting things makes us doubt that they will be neutral and fair in 2020.”
Mr. Mahama also expressed concern over the lack of transparency and consultation from the Commission.
“The EC is not a secret society. It is not somebody’s private closet that needs to be shut and us not know what is going on there . . . they should open all the process.,” he said.
“When the EC starts behaving like the representatives of political parties are a nuisance [to the commission] . . . then this affects the trust and confidence the people have in the EC [which is supposed to be] a neutral arbiter,” the former President added.

GHANAIANS SHOULD JUST PARDON JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA. THE MAN IS STILL YET TO WAKE UP FROM THE SHOCK HE EXPERIENCED ON THE 8TH OF DECEMBER 2016 AND BY THE TIME HE WAKES UP, 2020 WILL BE GONE. HE SHOULD SIMPLY TELL GHANAIANS WHAT HE INTENDS OR COULD DO AGAIN SHOULD HE WINS POWER ONE DAY (NOT 2020 ANYWAY) AS HIS UNPRECEDENTED CURRUPTION AND INCOMPETENT ADMINISTRATION IS STILL TOO FRESH ON OUR MINDS. OTHERWISE HE MUST ***barred word*** AND ALLOW THE COMPETENT THINKER, NANA AKUFFU ADDO TO TAKE US TO THE PROMISED LAND. GOD BLESS THE GREAT GHANA! GOD BLESS THE GREAT ADKLU KINGDOM! GOD BLESS THE VISIONARY PRESIDENT!
HOW CAN THEY CAST DOUBTS OVER A NEW ADMINISTRATION WHEN WE HAVE NOT WITNESS THEIR MAIDEN CONDUCTION OF ELECTIONS. NDC AND THEIR PARTY BIG WINGS SHOULD STOP CRYING FOUL, ITS TOO EARLY
***barred word*** talk..buldadash
WHY CAN'T NPP TOLERATE PRESSURE LIKE JOHN MAHAMA DID AND THE NDC WHEN THEY WERE IN POWER? THE NPP IS TOO INTOLERANT OF PEOPLE'S VIEWS. IF YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T RULE DUE TO PRESSURE THEN DON'T COME NEAR POLITICS. YOU ARE TELLING THE NDC TO GO TO COURT BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU INFLUENCE THE COURTS AND THE JUDGES TO RULE ISSUES IN YOUR FAVOUR. BUT ONE DAY THERE WILL BE A JUDGE YOU CAN'T INFLUENCE AT ALL BECAUSE HE OR SHE MAY BE MORE PRINCIPLED LIKE MY BEST EVER JUDGE IN THE UK IN THE 20TH CENTURY, LORD DENNING.
Being a statesman is the reason why John Mahama as a former President should accept not to dabble too much in politics. As at now he is to be treated as an ordinary citizen contesting for Presidential Elections. He will be saddled with all sorts of funny comments from the populace which might denegrate his status as former President of Ghana. THE ELDERLY SHOULD ADVISE FORMER PRESIDENT MAHAMA.
stuuuupiiiid minister you forget soo easily, what didnt you say to chalotte? why didnt you go to court? table will turn one day and soon and ghanaians will see how you sing same music.

I wished the Former Presidents from the NDC would take a cue from Ex-President JA Kufour to learn how to behave like a Statesman. Then, as a Former President, your office makes you automatically a Statesman and therefore your actions must be guided by pretty lofty decorum beyond Party politics. The unqualified attack on the EC is ssilly and uncalled for especially when it is coming from a Former President out of frustration and lack of ability to engage in intellectual and issue-based discourse.
