Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has disclosed that the NPP government is still settling debts left by the Mahama administration.
According to him, the settling of those debts has in effect affected some government projects.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that the debt been settled by government ranges from roads to energy.
Government recently had to look for money to settle debts owed Independent Power Producers (IPP) when they threatened to cut power supply.
He added that these things are affecting government adversely.
"Nonetheless government will continue to provide the necessary infrastructure to the people of Ghana."
"Most of governments planned and propose projects for road and other infrastructure is captured in the mid year budget review," he added.
The government has said the July 29, the mid-year budget will among other things focus on adding to state revenue to fund the outstanding programs for social and economic policies.
Addressing Journalists in Accra on Sunday, the Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the mid-year budget review will present the opportunity to take a second look at revenue availability to execute the remaining programmes.
“This is why revenue mobilization which was highlighted in the 2019 budget will remain a key feature in the mid-year review.”
“The objective will be to ensure that the government mobilizes enough resources to fully deliver on the outstanding commitments,” he said.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added that the government was hopeful of cutting out avoidable expenses while shoring up revenues.
This is to create more fiscal space to fully fund and execute the outstanding programs in the medium-term expenditure framework.
The country’s Financial Management Administration Act requires the Finance Minister to come before Parliament not later than July 31, to prepare and submit a Mid-Year Fiscal Policy review.

How many years in office already and you are still pointing fingers at the NDC? How many months of salary have you guys enjoyed?!And still excuses?? A complete DISAPPOINTMENT!!! And I thought you had the men...rubbish!
Governance is a process and so to inform the public that your predecessor's debt is slowing the projects means your government does not know and have what it takes to govern. I think you are a bunch of ***barred word*** guys just making money at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian. In future do not lie to ghanaians for the sake of political power. Ensure you have the will and capability to govern before llying to innocent ghanaians. Have your government been able to retrive money and prosecute double salary mp's or you are in the same shiiit. We need people of substance and with common sense to govern the country and not upside down
You have complained for over 3 years and you are still complaining, why? You think the only reason you drive around in a V8 funded by the taxpayers' money is to complain about what the previous government did ,right! You said you could fix things when given the mandate..now you have the mandate so stop the complaints and get to work. You said there was enough money and no need to borrow but you have brought Ghana's debt to ghc200billion! Do these politicians think we are as block-headed as they are! This is insulting..really it is!
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
Did President Kuffour and NPP leave any debts for NDC,hmmm, time will tell? I think the world bank etc. should institute a law that any government pays back its debts within the 4 year mandate given her before vying for a second term or leaving office if not, face sanctions for a long time. What is this,huh..Mahama and NDC are long gone why make excuses at all times for your inability to execute your duties? You guys are not serious.
Woti so kwa. Is there a debt in our books called NDC debt. if the Debt is for NDC why is Ghana government worried about it?
"ANYTIME A GOVERNMENT RESORTS TO BLAIMING THE OPPOSITION FOR ITS FAILURE TO DELIVER ON THEIR MANDATE AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE PEOPLE, IT IS A CLEAR SIGN THAT THEY HAVE ACCEPTED THAT THEY HAVE OUTLIVED THEIR USEFULNESS" KEITH ROWLEY, TRINIDAD. NPP DOES NOT DESERVE TO RULE AS THEY ARE VERY CLUELESS IN GOVERNMENT AND ALWAYS BLAMING THE OPPOSITION. IT IS A PITY TO LIVE UNDER SUCH KIND OF LEADERSHIP. ALWAYS BLAMING SOMEONE FOR THEIR OWN INEPTITUDE AND INEFFECTIVENESS. WHAT A SHA*ME. THIS NPP GOVERNMENT HAS OVER BORROWED MORE THAN ALL THE OTHER GOVERNMENTS BEFORE IT PUT TOGETHER, YET THEY HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW OFF AND YET STILL BLAMING OTHERS WHO HAVE A LOT TO SHOW OF.
Please Mr Information Minister, you were voted into power to change things stop complaining and get your hands dirty. Roll up your sleeves and do some work. Re engineer the financial system and put the money generated into the supply side of the economy. You have had wind falls in your first two years from oil which fortunately came your way at the right time. The vice president is a financial/economic guru and his abrasive lieutenants are in tow which shows he has the men as you espoused in opposition so you have no right to complain do some work. I USED TO ADMIRE YOU FROM WHERE YOU CAME FROM AND WHAT YOU HAVE ACHIEVED BUT THAT CREDIBILITY IS WANING VERY FAST.
Information minister you are a big blockheaded pig
