Government has issued a directive for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country as well as their Unit Committees to be dissolved by Monday, 7 October 2019 to pave way for the conduct of the upcoming district level elections.
A circular from the Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama also instructed all Regional Ministers to comply with the directive. The directive, however, excludes the Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly in the Bono East Region as well as the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region.
Meanwhile, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have been tasked to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the executive and administrative functions of their respective assemblies in line with Article 243(2) (b) of the 1992 Constitution.
