President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called for further consultations to be made regarding the impending referendum which will be held on December 17, 2019.
Deputy Information Minister Pius Enam Hadzide who made this known on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo' said the group will be led by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
"Before the President travelled, he called for another round of consultation which will be led by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. The consultation which is to clear the misunderstanding and misconceptions surrounding the referendum has already started and it will involve chiefs, religious leaders, civil societies and many others" he indicated.
Background
The December 17 referendum seeks to amend the law to enable Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and unit committee members to be elected along political party lines.
However, there seems to be confusion surrounding the referendum and what it actually entails.
An earlier research conducted by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), indicated that six (6) out of every (10) Ghanaian are unaware of the December 17 elections, let alone what it entails.
Some pundits analysing responses from Ghanaians and a u-turn by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called for a suspension of the referendum for consensus to be reached by everyone and for proper education to be made.
The Regional Reorganisation and Development Minister, Dan Botwe has proposed a total withdrawal of the December 17 referendum while Dr. Amoako Baah, a political scientist is calling for a suspension.

I will advise NDC to go to Congress again and change mahama. It will help them to win the next elections easily
Now you dey run away from yes and no elections! No matter what you do you will lose the next elections.
THE YES AND NO VOTES IS NOW PARTISAN AT THE VERY MOMENT NDC HELD THE PRESS CONFERENCE TO CALL FOR NO VOTE. THE NDC PULLOUT FROM THE AGREEMENT WITH NPP AT PARLIAMENT AND AT OTHER FORUMS TO SPONSOR YES VOTE SHARPLY DREW THE BATTLE LINE FOR THE TWO PARTIES. SOME OPINION LEADERS ARE CALLING FOR THE POSTPONEMENT OR THE CANCELLATION OF THE REFERENDUM FOR FURTHER AND A BETTER DISCUSSIONS. IN FACT MANY ACROSS THE NATION HAVE DEMANDED FOR PARLIAMENT TO PASS THE LAW TO ELECT THE MMDCES AS WE DO FOR THE ASSEMBLY MEN AND WOMEN BEFORE WE TAKE THE NEXT STEP TO THINK OF WHETHER MAKING THE ENTIRE DISTRICT ELECTION PARTISAN OR NOT. ONE STEP AT A TIME. IT IS ARGUED THAT WE CAN UNDERSTAND THE PROS AND CONS OF THE PARTISAN ELECTION OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BETTER WHEN WE GET TO ELECT THE MMDES TOGETHER WITH ASSEMBLY MEN AND WOMEN; AND OPERATE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLIES UNDER ONE SAME PRINCIPLES.THE ELECTION OF THE ASSEMBLIES FOR THE PRESIDENT TO NOMINATE THE MMDCES IS INCONSISTENT AND POLITICALLY CONFUSED AND WEIRD. MMDCES MUST BE ELECTED JUST LIKE THE ASSEMBLY MEN AND WOMEN. THEN WE GIVE OURSELVES SOME TIME TO STUDY TO KNOW WHETHER THE NEW SYSTEM WOULD WORK OR NOT BEFORE WE THINK OF ANY REFORM.
Power very sweetioooooo, have you seen how our president is laughing,
Please we are already tired of this NPP and NDC noise at the National Level. Don't bring it to the District assembly level for us. we are tired of political party interference in everything aspect of our lives.
Mr president pleaase call it off.
"Before the President travelled, he called for another round of consultation which will be led by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. The consultation which is to clear the misunderstanding and misconceptions surrounding the referendum has already started and it will involve chiefs, religious leaders, civil societies and many others" The problem with our politicians is they have lost the plot. You want to do consultations with people who have no say! it is a referendum and it is the say of the people. If you need further consultations, consult the people. I think that the people have a clear understanding of what is required of them in December. You can sense that the people don't want it. So irrespective of what you do, they will do what they want to do! Understand the Ghanaian and you will go far.
Until we go back to WHAT CRC SAID IN 2010 AND 2011 THE CONFUSION WOULD NOT GO. CRC PROPOSED THAT WE SELECT FIVE PEOPLE FROM.THE DISRICT TO GO THROUGH PUBLIC SERVICE CRITERIA INTERVIEWS TO PICK THREE TO STAND THE ELECTIONS THERE WAS NO MENTION OF POLITICAL PARTY'S NOMINATING PEOPLE. NPP ARE TWISTING THIS SIMPLE PROCEDURE TO SOM COMPLEX WAYS WE ARE DOING MP SELECTIONS AND OTHER THINGS WHICH HAS DIVIDED THE COUNTRY.
