The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has commended the Minister of Roads and Highways for ordering the demolition of a 22-storey building at the airport residential area in Accra.
Following numerous complaints from residents in the community that the developer has destroyed portions of a major road in the area, Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, stormed the property with security men and ordered for the arrest of three foreign nationals who were supervising the project just adjacent the Association International School.
His move drew commendation from Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, who stated in an interview with Peacefmonline.com that the act by the minister would instill discipline in other developers who are building across the country.
“If we should have about 90 ministers working under President Akufo-Addo act boldly and speak out like Amoako-Atta has done, we wouldn’t have indiscipline sprouting out like it has been. People would be afraid to attempt doing what is wrong. We must all commend Amoako-Atta for this act, nobody should condemn him”, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi said.
An angry Amoako-Atta in an interaction with developers stated that “Because of this project you destroy public road. This is nonsensical and madness. It is madness”, the minister shot out during a visit to the site Wednesday.
The minister revealed that his attention was drawn to the issue a few days ago hence he decided to get firsthand information on the matter by visiting the site.
He cautioned foreign nationals to obey the laws of the land, explaining that “Ghanaians outside this country are supposed to be law abiding, they are supposed to abide the law of those countries. We expect the same from any foreigner who comes into our country. And all of us should be careful.”
He also charged public officials to place the national interest above their personal interests, saying “Officials at various centres are to be very careful and we should carry our national flag. It is painful, it is painful that some officials...i don’t know what it is, is it money? We allow foreigners to take our country for a ride. Money is not the most important thing in this world.”
The Roads Minster added that “If there is anybody who is involved in this matter, any official at any level who might have compromised his or her position, that person will also be dealt with”.
He said not even the President of the land would do what has been done, warning that he does not care which political power, economic power or traditional power that person has, "this will not be allowed and we will not allow this."

BRAVO Mr. Minister for this bold act.
You have been talking RUBBISH for a long time now, but for once and this one i support you 101%. Thumbs up for the able minister.
WONTUMI JUST ADMITTED THIS GOVERNMENT AND HIS IT'S APPOINTEES ARE JUST INCOMPETENT BUNCH WHO ONLY CAME TO STEAL FROM US. HIS REAL MARKS COMES 2020. WE WON'T BE DECEIVED THIS TIME. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN YOUR FIRST TERM.. THEY SAY FREE SHS, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, THEY WILL SAY FREE SHS.. WHAT HAVE DONE, THEY WILL SAY FREE SHS... YOU ARE A JOKE MR PRESIDENT.
Very Sorry for your situation. As a matter of fact it is rampant. Foreigners take advantage of the week system we have and people willing to take money. they also know that our institution is weak and therefore they can get away with many things. Many fuel stations are built in areas that soak water during flooding . expatriate fill it up with sand and build on it . An example is on spintex rad a place called 2nd Junction just before papaye restaurant , a rivers bed have been destroyed for a shop and a fuel station for just one persons benefit. EPA is the most ***barred word*** institution in this country and have to be closed down for a new one to be formed. if i ever become president its the first thing I will do, people burn and do whatever they want , make noise just whatever you want to do in Accra you can do it. what are they paid for . very sad
This chap who wrote that the Minister should use civilised method knows nothing. The writer is far away from this earth. In fact, Ghana has a big problem if we have people like you in this country. He/she has never travel outside Ghana before and his ignorance is there for all to see. He should travel to the UK and other European countries whether the contractor could have done that in the first place....Never. Only in Africa that this can happen and someone will shout civilise method. Go to China and see, it would have been worse and this contractor should be prosecuted and deported.
Aho)yaa. Wo besu ara awu.
Villager Minister use civilised method.
BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!! Come to Adjiriganor and see what Trassaco in conjunction with TMA has done. A land which was meant as a road was first taken over by Trassaco and they put a fence wall around it. TMA then put their usual red paint notice on the wall that it must be pulled down. Two years later the same TMA stood by and allowed Trassaco to build houses on that land therefore now when it rains drainage becomes a problem because the road which would have had gutters for drainage have now been blocked by the houses built by Trassaco. No one was willing to listen to me at time (that was about 10 years ago) but now they are all suffering the consequences. How I wish there was someone like this minister at the time whom I could have approached!!
