The Minority caucus of Parliament has snubbed the debate on the President's State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered to Parliament last Thursday 20th February 2020.
The Minority caucus refused to participate in the debate which commenced in Parliament today after Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister of Information and MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi, moved the motion on behalf of the House to thank the President for his address.
By convention, a member from the Minority caucus should have seconded the motion, but the Minority Chief Whip, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak told the House that the Minority caucus has decided as a matter of principle not to participate in the debate following their walkout from Parliament before the President, Nana Akufo-Addo delivered the address in Parliament.
Hon. Muntaka Mubarak later in an interview with journalists said the action of the Minority is in protest against the bad governance of President Akufo Addo.
Speaking to journalists on the Minority's decision not to participate in the debate, Hon. Mathew Nyindam, the MP for Kpandai and Deputy Majority Whip said the Minority members have disappointed their constituents and the whole nation by their decision of not participating in the debate on the SONA.
Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Minority side on Thursday boycotted the 2020 State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Clad in black, the Minority MPs chanted the National Anthem as they walked out of the chamber shortly after President Akufo-Addo took his seat Thursday morning in the chamber.
"And help us to resist oppressors’ rule with all our will, and might forevermore,” they chanted as they walked out of the chamber.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs last week announced that they would boycott the 2020 SONA if the government failed to release five percent of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF).

Even npp mp's people voted for dem and when you talk about irrevant mp'so they are all in npp all de npp mp's are very arrogant and selfish look at some of dem who are now reared to as needy but brilliant selfish people come December we shall all see de real owners of this country if is Usuala Owusu and her people or de owners are the entire ghanaians
I AM HAPPY AS A GHANAIAN TODAY. WHY? THIS IS ONLY BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT IS BECOMING ON BECOMING AND EVERYTHING THAT HE SAYS IS A MOCKERY OF HIS OWN SELF. OUR WATER BODIES ARE BLEEDING WITH DIRT AND WE ARE HERE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT MINORITY. IF WE DON'T TAKE CERTAIN THINGS SERIOUS, WE WILL NEVER SEE PROGRESS. LOOK AT THE GARGANTUAN BORROWING AND YET WE HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT. THE CAMPAIGN PROCESS OF THIS PARTY WHEN IN OPPOSITION MADE IT LOOK LIKE WE WERE ***barred word*** INTO BELIEVING ALL THOSE LIES. NEVER AGAIN AKUFFO ADDO. NOW, I BELIEVE IT ISN'T ABOUT PARTY BUT LEADERSHIP.
NdC is becoming a ***barred word*** party. Uneccessary complaints all the time. You think such behavior will bring power to you? you better sit up.
What is more disappointing than boycotting parliament in 1992. We are where we are today because of that action. This action will affect the government internationally.
IN GHANA THE EXECUTIVE CONTROLS OUR PARLIAMENTS SO OPPOSITION BOYCOTT CANT YIELD ANY RESULTS. LET SEE PHYSICAL BLOWS NEXT TIME THEN WE SHALL SEE YOUR SERIOUSNESS ABOUT THE BAD GOVERNANCE YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT. IF INDEED YOU LOVE GHANA THEN YOU GUYS SHOULD PUSH THIS AGENDA BECAUSE BOYCOTT WILL BE REDUCE TO RADIO DISCUSSIONS WHICH LEADS US TO NO WHERE.
they didn't snub the debate, they dared not try to debate since then the majority would have shown the, their smoothness level, they ran
In fact, Muntaka is an apology of a Parliament. Per his actions he does not deserve to be in parliament. What governance is worse than that of JDM? Ghanaians saw the biases nature of Joe Adjaho but the minority at that time co-operate with you guys. Please! give Ghanaians a break. You does not deserve to be called an honorable
Gradually, NDC is becoming irrelevant. I am sure some of NDC supporters are disappointed.
Excellent Riddance. They will add ZERO value to the whole debate. Borla Party
And people voted for them..tweaaaa!!
