A member of the Communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Eric Adjei, has described as 'shameful' reports that some government officials benefitted from the GETfund.
The Auditor-General’s findings between 2012 and 2016 have come up with a list of 88 scholarship beneficiaries of GETFund, including Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh; Education Minister and Adwoa Sarfo, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya.
According to the audit report on the grant of GETfund Scholarships, Mr Opoku Prempeh spent some US $24, 000 at Harvard University training in a programme dubbed “Senior Executive in National and International Security”.
Adwoa Sarfo who was a Harvard Kennedy School student received US$17,004 as tuition fees and US$12,800 as a living allowance.
Eric Adjei speaking to this on UTV's Late News programme, Monday, wondered why government officials are benefitting from a fund dedicated for brilliant but needy students; tagging them as 'brilliant but needy MPs'.
According to him, "if you look at Dome-Kwabenya; the livelihood of the people and you juxtapose it to the amount of money she (Adwoa Safo) has spent in education, is this not witchcraft? Your father produces even caterpillar and everything, so what else do you want that you have become a brilliant but needy MP? . . . After going to the schools what have you done in your constituency, spending this huge amount for just three weeks and you have justification for this? Matthew Opoku Prempeh did you collect the money or not . . . instead of thinking of the less privileged, you are thinking of yourselves, This is shameful!"

This is Ghana for you. Whilst the little of those who don't have are being taken from them, those who have, and even have more, are being given more. This is shameful, to say the least.
So, all these so called Honorable Men and Women competed with the 'certified' poor kids in in Ghana for a scholarship and the honorable men were awarded leaving the poor? Napo and Adwoa wei paaaa die3 is not not not not... At least were thinking that you are going to use your position to advocate such opportunities for your constituents. I am really happy this publication came out.
