The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Pyne, says whether or not the ruling party will handpick parliamentary candidates lies in the hands of the National Executive Committee.
Tension seems to be brewing in the ruling party after reports emerged that due to COVID-19 the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party may handpick parliamentary candidates for the 2020 elections.
This was reportedly hinted by the General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu.
Reacting to this on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Sam Pyne said the "decision to select candidates lies in the hands of NEC and they have the power to do so, but no decision has been made in that regard; even if that will happen, they will get all stakeholders involved".
Meanwhile, John Boadu has denied hinting that there will be a handpicking of candidates.
Speaking on the Platform programme, Monday, he said even though NEC has the constitutional mandate to do so, "there are other options available which the party can consider when push comes to shove."
