A political science lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in the Central Region, Dr Isaac Brako, says the unrelenting protest and resistance by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the intended new voter register would affect the party’s prospects of winning back power in the December 7 polls.
He says it would affect the party, especially their incumbent Members of Parliament as well as parliamentary candidates at orphan constituencies, if attention was not shifted towards mobilising the party’s supporters to massively partake in the exercise when it commences.
The UEW lecturer made this known in an interview on Thursday.
He admonished the party’s leadership to desist from disorganising the party supporters against the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) in compiling the new voter register.
Dr Brako was commenting on a recent statement made by NDC’s National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, at the party’s 28th anniversary to the effect that the party is still against the compilation of a new voters’ register.
The political scientist advised the NDC leadership to begin advocating and mobilising the party supporters for the registration exercise instead of persistently telling them not to register their names in the new register and destroying the chances of the party in the upcoming general election.
He noted that the country has over the years experienced two parties in power – NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) – hence the need for NDC to work assiduously in preaching the party’s new policies to the general public rather than protesting against the new voters’ register.
Additionally, Mr Brako said the EC is mandated by the 1992 Constitution to compile a new register, which is not the first time it is doing so.
He thus called on NDC leadership to advocate and actively engage its supporters from the grassroots in participating in the intended registration exercise, especially at the party’s strongholds.
Getting the party supporters to fully partake in the exercise, according to him, would enhance the party’s chances of winning back all the parliamentary seats it lost to the NPP in the 2016 elections.

The assumption that by merely and simply resisting the opening of new voters register by NDC could make the party lose the 2020 elections is very far fetched. NPP resisted the use of the current register and demanded the opening of a new register promising to fight till a new register was opened. NPP won the the elections by a margin of 1 million votes. What has changed to make NDC lose the election because of its resistance to the the new register. Mr lecturer, kindly give us a break. If you have been induced to come out with this bogus analysis, kindly return their money to them.
Mr. Brakos observation is correct. 6 months now o December presidential and parlamentray elections and the party leaders of NDC have been engaged in one way traffic politics, nothing but fierce confrontation with the E.C. For this party leaders that is the only party politics in Ghana. "Fight the E.C and we shall be triumph come the 2020 elections. Stop the one way traffic politics and mobelise the masses and give confidence to Ghanaians. Give hope to ghanaians and stop the macho fight of the E.C which is total waiste of time, energy and money.
Of course! NDC would participate fully in the new register compilation if push comes to shove. But at the moment the case is in court, so let's allow the court to decide and when we get to the bridge we will cross it.
The NDC don't have any hope winning 2020 elections so they are only trying to find excuses for their defeat. Their problem is about the flagebearer. Mahama's record is not favourable to the party. So many scandals allegations. Rawlings is gradually disassociating himself from the party because of FORD, AIRBUS, KARL POWER BANK and so on.
In our current circumstances, there will be NO voters’ register!! It’s just NOT feasible!!
WHO IS THIS 2 BY 4 POLITICAL SCIENTIST. HE SHOULD USE HIS THEORIES TO CONTEST MP AND LET'S SEE. THEY ALL KNOW THERE IS NO NEED FOR A NEW REGISTER, BUT BECAUSE OF POLITICS AND TRIBALISM THEY ARE SINGING AN EVIL TUNE. HE SHOULD SIT THERE, BEFORE HE KNOWS THE NDC AND PRESIDENT MAHAMA WILL BE BACK IN POWER BY THE GRACE OF GOD, AMEN.
Mr Brako who told ypu ndc has a chance in winning this 2020 elections on what? On create loo*00t and share? or on insults and 3ny3 yie? The way that party was formed the same way it will vanish ! If you date a lady on the street you leave her on the street with no strings attached! Ghana's so called intellectuals are also the problem in the country because they jump to comment on any little thing these i don't know how to call them because i can't call "Anderson Cooper" a journalist and call these people the same! people who are making sensation in the country just for attention ! Ndc is not coming back today or tomorrow its better they tell their followers not to register because "f3re3 ne owuo de3 anka owuo" they know they cant even get 3 million people to vote for them and their disgrace on elections in Ghana will be exposed so they trying to play tricks ! Dr Brako please leave them to live in their la la land ! To morrow is Monday and they will have a press conference on their failed manifesto ! If their manifesto worked good that was what they should tell Ghanaians not somebody's manifesto that they are still working tiredlessly to get things done ! These ndc don't have the intellectual capabilities to think far and their followers also live in la la land so can't see anything wrong! Miserable !
Leave this ***barred word*** NDC people and let them carry on with their self-destruction agenda. Lack of strategic thinking among the leaders is abundantly clear and show that they are unfit to govern Ghana. Why are they resistant to change voters register which affect all parties equally? NDC knows something we don't know...
