Kwesi Pratt has advised the Electoral Commission (EC) to draw lessons from the unfortunate situation of the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, and curtail plans to compile a new register.
The Health Minister of Health is on admission at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), receiving treatment for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo disclosed the health status of the Minister and wished him speedy recovery, during his 11th update on COVID-19.
“Let us also wish our hardworking Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, MP for Dormaa Central, a speedy recovery from the virus, which he contracted in the line of duty and is in stable condition,” the President said.
Contributing to Peace FM's political programme 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt noted that despite all preventive measures adopted by the Health Minister, he couldn't become immune from the virus and to him, the EC shouldn't think their measures are foolproof to secure the lives of the participants in the new voters' registration exercise.
According to him, the Commission will be exposing the electorates to the pandemic disease and endangering the lives of many Ghanaians.
He therefore has asked the EC to stop the mass registration exercise scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 30 this year.
"The Health Minister, himself, is in the hospital. Meanwhile, there's nobody in Ghana who can tell that the Minister in charge of health didn't comply with the President's directives. He followed them; he wore face mask. He has done the social distancing and so forth but he's infected...Unless you want to tell me the Minister didn't adhere to the preventive instructions that were given by the President. He complied with it but he is in hospital and now the President says we should pray him. And we're praying for him to fully recover. So, it's too risky,"he emphasized.

NDC and Kwasi Pratt are CONFUSED! They do not know why they are against EC. Today this, tomorrow that! Haaaba!
if you will endorse Akuffo addo as life president until a cure is found it is ok. but if you stop registration and voting for that matter dont come back and tell us Akuffo Addo is not the president
I completely agree with all the previous commenters' views especially@OJAM. Pratt can burn the sea if he likes, but the registration will come off. He and his people can stay home, it's not compulsory for all we care! Nation wreckers stomach thinkers.
I am absolutely amazed at the level of hypocrisy of those who are trying every trick in the book to ensure that the new voter registration does not take place. Firstly look at the market place and the volume of people there and ask yourself are they not more exposed than what will happen during the registration? Secondly if the churches can contain 100 people at a time, then why can't the same approach be adopted by the E.C. or are the prophets of doom implying that the registration areas will be specially targeted by the germs? Using the fact that the Health Minister has contracted Covid 19 as a reason not to proceed with the registration further exposes their weak level of reasoning. Remember that even the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also contracted the illness and also Prince Charles of late is also experiencing symptoms of the illness. By all means express your concerns but back it up with accurate scientific facts instead of cheap propaganda and scare mongering.
Then it will be too risky to vote so lets all wait until we find a cure. Hypocrites.
There’s no way many Togolese on our register can remain on it registration is no force if you won’t register find but you can’t insight your listeners not to. You have only one vote so no one cares if ndc lose one vote
Kwesi then we can't vote if that is what you are saying . The country will wait until the virus is over.
