The Leader and Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama has urged the leadership of the Christian Council of Ghana not to stay silent on happenings in the country.
According to him, there is so much intolerance in the country orchestrated by the government in its attempt to continue to stay in power.
He said there was the need for people to freely speak without any fear about what they think it is going wrong in the country without being subjected to attacks and insults.
The former President who was formally presenting his running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman to the leadership of the Christian Council of Ghana on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at the Headquarters of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra, however, commended the leadership of the Christian Council for defending one of their own — Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare, when the Bishop was subjected to attacks and insults on his person after speaking against some ills in the country.

IT IS DISHONESTYY ND HYPOCRISYY FOR MAHAMA TO CRITICIZE CHRISTIAN COUNCIL TO BE SILENT AND NOT TO ATTACK THE GOVERNMENT. FIRST, MAHAMA SHOULD NOT THINK CHRISTIAN COUNCIL LEADERS ARE CHILDREN WHO CAN BE DECEIVED AND MANIPULATED. MAHAMA IS NOT SMARTER THAN CHRISTIAN COUNCIL MEMBERS. CHRISTIAN COUNCIL ARE NOT BLIND NOR DEAF, THEY ALSO SAW AND HEARD WHAT MAHAMA AND HIS BOYS DID BEFORE THE REGISTRATION. THEY WERE WITNESS TO THE ***barred word*** ATTACKS AND THREATS ISSUED AGAINST EC, DEROGATORY STAMENS AGAINST SUPREME COURT AND INCITING OF VIOLENCE IN THE COUNTRY SHOULD THE REGISTRATION HAPPEN. THE VIOLENCE OF THE REGISTRATION OCCURRED BECAUSE THE GRASSROOTS ATTACHED IMPORTANCE TO THE TREATS ISSUED BY THEIR NDC LEADERS. IN RESPONSE TO THE SAME THREATS, THE SECURITY FORCES DID NOT TAKE THE SITUATION FOR GRANTED. THEY WERE VERY MUCH ALERT AND DEPLOYED THE FORCES FOR WHICH MAHAMA CALLED EXCESSIVE. PERHAPS WE COULD HAVE WITNESS MORE VIOLENCE IF SUCH FORCES HAD NOT BEEN DEPLOYED. IT IS STRANGE THEREFORE FOR MAHAMA TO CAUSE CONDITION THAT RAISED TENSION BEFORE THE ELECTION AND TURNS AROUND TO EXPECT ANOTHER GROUP TO SOOTHE THE SITUATION . THIS IS DISHONESTYY AND HYPOCRISYY.
