Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga has debunked claims that the Minority Caucus in Parliament is not working in the best interest of Ghana.
He indicated that the Minority’s disagreement on certain government policies cannot be interpreted as being unpatriotic when it comes to the development of Ghana.
MPs shouted at each other and engaged in open fighting in Parliament on the evening of 20 December 2021 as the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, left his seat to enable him also to cast a vote to pass the E-Levy under a certificate of urgency.
But speaking on Asaase Radio Monday (4 April), Ayariga said preventing the government from implementing the Electronic Transactions Levy is another way of working for the growth of the country.
“We are working for Ghana. If you bring a policy that says that ordinary people when they pass their money through electronic transactions the government should take 1.5% and we disagree, how is that not working for Ghana? I mean they [the government] believe that they’re working for Ghana by pushing that the state should take a portion of the money and we [Minority] believe that we’re working for Ghana by striving to prevent the state from taking people’s money,” the lawmaker said.
He added: “You want [us] to go into some an unholy alliance that’s when you’ll know that we are working together? So, when we disagree, we disagree because we’re [Minority] convinced that it is not the right thing to do. And they’re [Majority] convinced that it is the right thing to do. And that’s what democracy is all about.”

If the Ghanaians indiscriminately kept their own counsel and reflected to find out how their dear country would have fared if the NDC's administration were in power to manage the affairs of the country amid the pandemic and, of late, the Ukraine-war. It is instructive and worth noting that, without those crises and war, the NDC-administration sent Ghana to the IMF for a financial bail-out. Hence, those dishonest political opponents trying hard to use the current global hardship as a propaganda tool to discredit the hard-working Akufo-Addo-administration are doing so only for their own parochial political interest and not that of Ghana. I know the people of Ghana certainly can read between the lines to know which political order has their well-being at heart.
You are rather working for Mahama .
