A Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, has described the economic lectures presented by the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as one bordering on intellectual dishonesty.
According to him, the vice president, whom he christened "Walewale Adam Smith", has refused to take "wise counsel" on how he can be assisted to revive the country's ailing economy, and is rather embarking on a lying-spree masked as an economic lecture.
Dr Bawumia, on Thursday, delivered a speech on the economy at National Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) Training and Orientation Conference, and highlighted some digitization interventions by the incumbent government that, to him, is saving the country huge sum of monies and quickly transforming the economy.
In a brutally-frank lecture on Ghana’s economy from 1990 till date, he reminded Ghanaians that although times may be hard now, the Akufo-Addo administration inherited an even more dire situation and successfully moved the country onto a path of growth until the whole world was blindsided by the Covid 19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and locally, the banking sector clean up.
“Not long ago, we had felt similar despair. The fear of losing our lives to a pandemic and the near halt to our economy as we battled to survive each day. Some years ago also we had been confronted by very dire economic circumstances. The joblessness of our youth, years of lights out that impacted adversely on businesses and jobs, the disappointment of dealing with a collapsed national health insurance system and inability to access health care, the bane of the cash and carry system, a nearly collapsed national ambulance system, freeze on public sector employment, an almost collapsed banking sector and so on . . .
“ . . The government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo put in much effort to turn things around and elevate the standards of living of the Ghanaian people above what the situation used to be at the time this government was formed in 2017 . . .
“Together as a country, we proceeded to fix the economy. We made great gains and the records attest to this. Prior to the Coronavirus pandemic which has impacted all economies in the world, we stabilized the economy, and achieved great strides.
“The relatively strong performance of the economy, among other things, led to Ghana becoming the destination of choice for Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in West Africa according to the 2019 World Investment Report by UNCTAD.
“In the midst of the current economic challenges we face, we are putting in place the key pillars for the economic transformation of Ghana. We may not yet be where we want to be, and we may be buffeted by the winds of the pandemic and the war for yet a little while, but we have made a great start and, together, we shall finish what we started,” he stated.
But speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, Hon Adongo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, was emphatic that the lecture was just another avenue to lie to Ghanaians and slammed Dr Bawumia for attributing the country's economic woes to the conflict in Eastern Europe.
To him, the ineptness of the NPP to tackle the economy is "legendary".
"This government has just emboldened their incompetence with this lecture which did not provide any pragmatic solutions to the current challenges the country is facing.
"Why do they continue to blame their inefficiencies on something else? For example, why do you blame the escalation of food prices on the Russia-Ukraine war? How often do Ghanaians add wheat to their staple food? Is this not the same government that said they had abundance of food to feed the whole country through their planting for food and jobs programme? You see, when you lie about things you have not done your own failed policies will expose you.
"The inept administration of the NPP government is legendary. What Bawumia did at the economic lectures is nothing new but another avenue to lie to Ghanaians," he added.

NDC and their leadership are not serious with Ghanaians As for that rotten egg Adongo the least said about him the better. If NDC will rely on the characters like Adongo and others then NDC is a failure
Those of you shouting Covid-19 and 2 months Russia-Ukranian war should remember that in 2009, Prof. Attah Mills' government coincided with the great recession (triggered by the housing sector and Wall Street banks collapse) in USA which spilled over to Europe and China. Thus countries like Greece, Portugal and Italy had to go for bail out. This had an impact on funding for African economies including Ghana. Commodity market slumped and inflows from gold and cocoa became marginal. However, higher production of cocoa offsetting the lower pricing. Our economy has always been impacted by external factors. Buwumia should accept his failings and stop these disingenuous lectures.
GHANAIANS ARE JOKERS NO COUNTRY BORROWED TO FUND THEIR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IS ONLY A COUNTRY THAT IS SICK. ALLOW PEOPLE TO PAY TAXES NOT TO LEAVE FOR FREE, A COUNTRY LIKE RUSSIA, USA, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, AND OTHER MIDDLE INCOME COUNTRIES DO NOT BORROWED TO FUND THEIR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS, PAY GOVERNMENT WORKERS PURE ***barred word***. NO COUNTRY WANT THEIR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO. NO FREE LUNCH ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY TAXES TO FUND YOUR ROADS USE YOUR MOUTH TO PAVE YOUR ROADS. TAKE A LOOK AT THE GHANA CEDI, ANYTIME BANK OF GHANA SELLS DOLLARS GUTA AND THEIR PEOPLE GET A CHUNK OF IT TO IMPORT ALL KINDS OF sh*t INTO THE COUNTRY INSTEAD FORCUSING ON THE COUNTRY'S LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTION THAT IS WHAT IS KILLING THE CEDI TO BE THE WORST PERFORMING CURRENCY INTHE WORLD. GHANAIANS SHOULD TELL THE WORLD WHAT VALUE ADDED PRODUCTS DO GHANA EXPORTS TO EARN FOREIGN EXCHANGE TO SHORE UP THE CEDIS GHANA ONLY EXPORT RAW MATERIALS WHICH DOESN'T GET NOTHING MUCH. SO WE NEED TO EXPORT MUCH ADDED VALU TO GAIN FOREIGN EXCHANGE TO SHORE UP THE LOCAL CURRENCY AND THAT IS WHAT PRESIDENT NANA ADDO TRYING TO DO BY ONE DISTRICT ONE FACTORY. TO CHANGE THE PARADIM SHIFT TO GET MORE FOREIGN EXCHANGE TO HELP THE CEDI/
Ghanaians should be very careful with NDC. Had I known is always at last.
MR. Adongo or whatever your name is, if Dr. Told Ghanaians lies then what is the truth. Mr. "wiseman" let us (Ghanaians) know the truth. At times I wonder how some peolpe like you got their to parliament. Parliament has become so cheap that persons like is a parliamentatrian. You self-acclaimed intellectual cannot and never match that of Dr. Bawumia. During your (NDC) era, thare was no any major global pandemic but Ghaianians saw hoew you guys managed the country. You guys (NDC) claim you are good but you took our destiny to IMF, dumsor, freeze on employment, paying three months salary instead of over twelve months etc. No wonder you guys d=said Ghanaians have short memories. Please! spare us this your non-fa analysis and stop attcking Dr. Bawumia.
The BBC Focus on Africa Interview of the Ghanas President Nana Akufo-Addo has a lot to spell on the presentation of the vice president Bawumia. It has become clear to Ghanaians that Bawumia is a theorist and economic propaganda. Whiles the BBC Focus on Africa exposed the weakness and the shadow of Ghanas economy, Bawumias presentation was nothing but "blame game political attitude" Ghanaians not need economic grammer. The expectation of Ghanaians was that "how do you lift Ghanaians out of their economic poverty" In a country where the rich are growing richer, few have the privileged of satisfying their needs because their party is in power. Bawumias presentation does not refelct on the life style of the ordinary Ghanaian and I consider him to be a theorist. He failed to pragmatise the theory into the real situation of Ghanas economy. Thanks for the BBC Focus on Africa Interview which lambasted Ghanas president to be humble and accepted the failure of his economic Team that has led to the sufferings of Ghanaians.
Did NDC have all these propaganda economist but yet took Ghana to the IMF?
It appears Bawumia is not serious with ghanaians. If the economy was so bad in 2017, would they have appointed 130 ministers and payed them, over 2000 people at the presidency and other uncountable appointment?
These NDC people are only good at criticizing...... P/NDC ruled for 27 years and the results are there for us all to see. You ended up at the IMF.... Massa go and eat your dog meat and leave us alone with your criticism without any suggestion.
