Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has described the Vice President Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia's analysis on the economy and its current situation as "complete hogwash".
He holds the view Dr. Bawumia spent the whole time lying to Ghanaians.
Dr Bawumia, on Thursday, delivered a speech on the economy at National Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) Training and Orientation Conference, and highlighted some digitization interventions by the incumbent government that, to him, is saving the country huge sum of monies and quickly transforming the economy.
In a brutally-frank lecture on Ghana’s economy from 1990 till date, he reminded Ghanaians that although times may be hard now, the Akufo-Addo administration inherited an even more dire situation and successfully moved the country onto a path of growth until the whole world was blindsided by the Covid 19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and locally, the banking sector clean up.
“Not long ago, we had felt similar despair. The fear of losing our lives to a pandemic and the near halt to our economy as we battled to survive each day. Some years ago also we had been confronted by very dire economic circumstances. The joblessness of our youth, years of lights out that impacted adversely on businesses and jobs, the disappointment of dealing with a collapsed national health insurance system and inability to access health care, the bane of the cash and carry system, a nearly collapsed national ambulance system, freeze on public sector employment, an almost collapsed banking sector and so on . . .
“ . . . The government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo put in much effort to turn things around and elevate the standards of living of the Ghanaian people above what the situation used to be at the time this government was formed in 2017 . . .
“Together as a country, we proceeded to fix the economy. We made great gains and the records attest to this. Prior to the Coronavirus pandemic which has impacted all economies in the world, we stabilized the economy, and achieved great strides," the Veep stated.
But speaking on Okay Fm's "Ade Akye Abia" programme, he accused the Economic Management Team headed by Dr. Bawumia of shirking responsibility after allowing the economy things to spiral out of control.
Wondering how such a personality can be settled on by the ruling party as its candidate for the next general elections, Hon Jinapor expressed optismism the NDC will regain power and lead Ghanaians out of their economic doldrums.
"Indeed you wake up today and you don’t even know how you’re going to make ends meet. And instead of this government sitting up and thinking out of the box, all that we hear is that they do not control world market pricing and that the Russia-Ukraine war has affected us. The petrol we buy today is on account of the depreciation of the cedi. We control the cedi here. The EMT under Dr. Bawumia has failed woefully, indeed they’ve run out of ideas......
".....It is about time Ghanaians change the inept and incompetent vice president Dr. Mahama Bawumia and his party for failing miserably at governance. How can the NPP With Bawumia as their candidate win the 2024 general elections? The NDC is going to win and lead Ghanaians to the promise land," he assured.

Another NDC empty barrel making the most noise..... you are not even qualified to clean Dr Bawumia's shoes. Massa go find somewhere and hide your face. This boy stole so much money when he was dep energy minister.
Who is this guy to Challenge Dr Bawumia? What is his pedigree. Only Ghana that a character of that MP who to me is like my first son first degree thinker. NDC with this crop of leadership will sink again becuase they are not appealing to floating voters . NDC thinks relying on lies , deceit and propaganda will win them power this time around but is a joke What does that MP know ? A country of opposition jokers. amazing.
Let these NDC guys dream...as it is within their rights to do so. All they want is power to govern without any credible economic policy. Amazingly, they also don't like the truth. Never, never,, NEVER again will we allow the use of propaganda and deception to gain power in our dear country. Master, tell us what your plans are as we know that of NPP, so that we can compare.
NDC can not be an option! All these name calling and not a single line or data to contradict Bawumiah's presentation? NDC must go into extinction!
@Tetteh - Yeah looks like a continuing demonstration of incompetenece by NDC. What they know best is name calling and propaganda instead of addressing issues.
This is the crux of the problem with the NDC. Dr Bawumia presented facts and verifiable data. I expect the NDC to challenge him on those facts and figures with alternate data and figures, to disprove what he had claimed. It's been days and all we hear is just sweeping claims; Bawumia only mentioned e levy 2 times; Bawumia just lied, etc. Quite empty. This is mediocrity from the NDC. In fact Jinapor claims he lied, but did not mention which particular lie. Come again. Where are the NDC economic gurus? Adongo says we virtually eat anything from wheat. Laughable!!! Point out the specific lies and enrich the debate or just keep mute
