Controversial Lawyer, Maurice Ampaw says some ‘babies in diapers’ have in a short period become ‘millionaires’ – something they would have struggled to achieve if they did not venture into politics.
According to him, politics in Ghana has become the fastest way for just any ordinary person to become rich.
He named the likes of Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa, NDC’s Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, Director General, National Lottery Authority, Sammy Awuku among others who have suddenly become “rich” with their involvement into politics.
Lawyer Ampaw argued that the acquisition of wealth among some young politicians in the country is alarming – he, however, called on the office of the Special Prosecutor (SP) to investigate them to save the public purse.
“We know them, you don’t need lawyer Ampaw to mention names. Their quest to be MPs and acquisition of properties is mind-blowing. They are overnight achievers; they have not suffered enough.”
“Someone like Okudzeto Ablakwa, Felix Kwakye Ofosu among others have done nothing in life but rich now, we saw the lavish wedding by Okudzeto Ablakwa in this country. Where did he get the money from as a university graduate with no working experience?"
“I have known Okudzeto Ablakwa from years back. He couldn’t even afford to pay for his car maintenance. He was nobody but when he entered politics, things changed drastically. As I speak, his new mansion in his hometown is more than a palace,” he claimed.
Lawyer Ampaw further said the Nana Addo-led government is also breeding ‘young yet powerful’ politicians who are stealing from his government.
“Who is Sammy Awuku, ‘boys abr3’? a lot of them, what have they done in life. Nana B, Asenso and the rest. They are a lot them, right from university they entered politics and are rich now,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie', Thursday, 19th May 2022.
Lawyer Ampaw, who was discussing the Special Prosecutor’s role to protect the public purse told host, Akwasi Aboagye that – “All these boys from Mahama’s time to President Nana Addo’s time must be investigated on how they are making their money.”
“There are so many things happening in this country. People are stealing from the state,” he lamented.
“Someone like Eugene Arhin [Director of communications at the office of the president], Jesus Christ, what has he done in life?” he questioned.

Two kinds of people in life. Those who come through the door(honest, genuine and hardworking citizens) and those who come throgh the window (crooks, armed robbers, politicians). Ablakwa et al who have never held a single honest job in their lives. Like a leech, they have stolen and milked this country dry... BUT THEY WILL LOOSE IT ALL!
White Tiger: There are 2 ways to become a rich person; one is through politics and the other is through crime.
Truth be told and that is it. The easiest way to make money without working for it at all is to join Ghana politics, get closer to the big and pray he wins power, in four years you would have gathered what your father never saw throughout his working life. If not in Ghana how can a chamber and hall occupant in his father's compound house where you have close to 20 occupants, he goes into a common bathroom for all with a size 30 bucket in hand. Having become a minister, in less than four years this person uses less than 6 months to put up a mansion, have fleet of cars, can hijack vehicles meant for auction, pays for them and distribute to his cohorts. I know of someone who was occupying a single room in his father's house. A full set of furniture couldn't enter his room, currently an MP his houses in Accra, fleet of commercial buses, hmmmm. I know of an unemployed young man running errands for a presidential candidate. This person wins the presidency and makes the errands boy a deputy minister in a lucrative ministry, in 2016 he was renting a quarters in his own hometown, he had no single room of his own. Today his mansion have become a tourist attraction in his hometown, as V8's and saloon cars, stop. How can such people account for these ill gotten wealth. In Ghana people are hiding behind democracy to create, loot and share what belongs to the people, if that is what democracy is about, then it's bad. No wonder engineers, doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, architects, lecturers, drivers, driver mates, hairdressers, tailors, have all become politicians in Ghana where you don't work but get all you need. A teacher, nurse, civil servant having worked for 30-35 years, someone who was always last in class gets a political appointment and in 48 months, what he or she gets you can't get 1/10 of that, is this not pure robbery? 4 years against 35 years and 4 years earns more than 35 years not by virtue of any big qualification but because he or she is a politician. If you want a clear demonstration of George Owell's ***barred word*** farm, come to Ghana and witness it live.
Until our state agencies like the office of the special prosecutor start taking some of these guys on, that is how is gonna be.
The youths in our politics are the big ***barred word***. Their only source of wealth is being politicians. The more reason why Ghana can’t survive when give to the younger generation. They are too greedy.
He is very right. All these boys are milking the state at the expense of the ordinary tax payer. None of these guys worked after school and so where did they get all the money from? God have mercy on Oman Ghana
Truth must be told and it’s getting worse! They say they are working for the party but we don’t see the output…….. just follow and get rich overnight. From the office of the president, first and second ladies right down to the MCE’s. No wonder the public debt is so huge. They take the loans and share among themselves! This democracy thing is not helping us. The constitution need some amendments. Like seriously!
The painful truth
Don't stop there....go to the boys in the offices of vice president and the president. they are without portfolios yet they are very rich. there is one of them in Sunyani now at the vice president's office and he is being alleged to be building two and three storey buildings in Sunyani metropolitan areas. he even attends funerals and his community raises a podium in national colors for him as if he is the president of vice president of the country. meanwhile he is neither an MP, or MCE but just working in the vice president's office. i am told he used to be a tutor at one of the SHS in the Bono Region. We need to begin to name and shame these people who are not even politicians but enter into politics to enrich themselves at the expense of the state and the tax payer liker me.
