Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to address the nation on the government’s decision to seek an International Monetary Fund (IMF) economic rescue programme.
This will be during the official launch of the collaboration between Accra Business School and South East Technological University Ireland.
In announcing the development, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko wrote: “the Vice President is expected to speak on Ghana’s decision to go to the IMF at this event.”
President Akufo-Addo on July 1 ordered the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to begin formal engagements with the Fund.
The move has since divided public opinion. While some welcomed the decision, others have criticized the government for not remaining committed to its decision not to return to the Fund earlier.
Meanwhile, an IMF team has arrived in the country to begin the first engagement process. The team is led by Carlo Sdralevich, who is the mission chief for the country.
Mr Sdralevich in statement said: “The IMF stands ready to assist Ghana to restore macroeconomic stability, safeguard debt sustainability, and promote inclusive and sustainable growth, and address the impact of the war in Ukraine and the lingering pandemic.”

Talk-talk, talk-talk saaaa has led us to imf. You are still talking. Have you forgotten action speaks louder than words? A word to a wise.....
@ Ralph, true talk paaa. Remember John Mahama once said Bawumia is still new in politics so he unable to read in between the lines. He said they will use him to achieve power, they will let him to the talking and receive all the insults while they are busy grabbing from all angles, it's like what John Mahama said is about to happen. What else will Bawumia tell Ghanaians to win their trust, what. They have succeeded in making John Mahama the most popular politician in Ghana today, John Mahama may not be perfect but he's certainly miles ahead of our man in all aspects of governance, even his team B ministers are much more on top of issues that ' we have the men' party. If these current appointees are the men NPP have been claiming to have, then we are lost. Real men don't throw in the towel . Kennedy Agyapong said it NPP ? Book, book, book 99%. Home sense 0%
My brother, if you speak, people may hear but they won't listen. It's like the powers that be are smarter than you. They have used you to get what they want. Your credibility has been damaged, even if you were to win the presidential primaries of the NPP and contests the presidential elections in 2024, can you convince Ghanaians to trust you having made John Mahama look like a saint. Today no economic indicator is favouring Ghana, Inflation, interest rates, exchange rate, price stability, domestic and foreign debts are higher today than the Mahama era who you mocked and continued to mock at gatherings. Today it's like Akuffo Addo came to vindicate John Mahama. I repeat, you can do all you can, the people will hear but won't listen. Currently 1 leg of the npp is in opposition, the other leg is broken and limping so which leg are you going to stand on to break the 8?
