The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Friday, 6th January 2023, accepted the resignation from office of Mr. Alan Kyerematen as Minister for Trade and Industry.
This was after Mr. Kyerematen, on Thursday, 5th January, informed the President personally of his decision to resign, and subsequently submitted his letter of resignation to him.
"President Akufo-Addo thanked Mr. Kyerematen for his services to his government and to the country, and wished him well in his future endeavours," a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications Office of the President said.
The President has asked the Minister for Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, to act as caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, until a substantive appointment is made.
Trade and Industry Minister Resigns
Trade and Indsutry Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has resigned from the Akufo-Addo administration.
Peacefmonline's impeccable sources within Mr Kyerematen's camp and at the Presidency say he tendered in his resignation on Thursday, January 5, 2023.
Alan Cash, as he is popularly known, is one of the possible presidential candidates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
What remains unclear is if this resignation is linked to Alan's presidential ambition.
In 2007, Mr Kyerematen made an attempt at leading the ruling party as its flagbearer capturing 32.3% of the votes cast.
He secured the first runner-up position after Nana Akufo-Addo had garnered 47.96% of votes cast.
Undettered, Alan Cash made other attempts at the party’s leadership in 2010 and 2014. But on both occasions, he placed second to Akufo-Addo who won the primaries.

@Kate stop being naive, anybody who does not get good Advanced level exams cannot enter the Ivy university in the USA. You can political but do not show your ignorance. Be circumspect whenever you come to the public.
I believe Alan is too intelligent to appreciate the dynamics of personal interest in light of surrogates who may lose their importance and interest if Allan teams up with Bawumia. That notwithstanding, Alan's interest in serving his country as president should not be restricted to a particular time when his chances of winning are not favorable, and he therefore has to strategize to get there. Thus, teaming up with Bawumia at this particular time is very critical. And this will be my candid advice. The principle of democracy upholds, respects, and is guided by keen and fair competition; hence, strategizing is very key. These are my words in support of Alan's collaboration with Bawumia.
I don’t want to believe that the president is disrespecting parliament and Ghanaians for increasing the portfolios of Ken Ofori-Atta. This is one person majority of Ghanaians want to be shown the exit and for the president to add another portfolio to his existing struggling ministry is an insult. Anyway, no surprise the president had 3rd class in economics while Ken failed his Advanced Level exams. This is a clear example of state capture by the political class. His own parliamentarians want Ken to be sacked and His Excellency the president asked them to allow him some time to conclude some aspects of the IMF deal. I’m not sure the president is fair to himself, members of parliament and Ghanaians in general. It looks like the First Gentleman is happy with the state of the nation when things are getting worse.
Chaaiii, one man, two ministries at the same time. He will now chop with both hands, very soon the agriculture ministry will be added so whilst the two hands are busy chopping there will still be one reserve. Maybe the man is adhering to the advice for him to reduce the size of his government. Don't be surprised if Ken Ofori atta is given all the ministries to handle, 'One man thousand' Hahahaaaa. The minister for finance and economic planning, trade and industry, agriculture+ Ken Ofori atta. Interesting.
NPP is at crossroads. NDC has no problem because they do not have any outstanding candidates to challenge Mahatma. The story of NPP is different. Bawunia, the VP is intelligent and outspoken he is clear in the current political policies. He is experienced in government for 8trs. Ken is no ***barred word*** person needed for new Africa. He is a successful businessman who understands the dynamics of doing business. Alan is a noble human person and highly industrialist and trade manager. He is a gifted diplomat and well vexed in negotiations, which is critically essential in contemporary governance. He has the ability to bring on board the right people irrespective of their political background to get the maximum results to develop the nation. Bawumia is great but he might need to rest. Alan can give him a good rest now for him to refresh himself. The future is still wide open for him. Ken is a great man but he contains in himself the character of both Donald Trump and Paul Kagame.. Ghanaians are not sure which of the two Ken would reflect as president. He is a symbol of "kyakya" a game of risk.. The choice is for Ghanaians but they must pray to God for the right choice.
