Embattled former NDC Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency, James Gyakye Quayson has declared his intention to contest the parliamentary seat again on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 as set by the Electoral Commission.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has set Tuesday, June 27, 2023, as the date for a by-election in the Assin North constituency following the removal of the former Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson by a Supreme Court ruling.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court directed Parliament to expunge his name from its records; declaring his election as null and void.
As a result, the Assin North seat was declared vacant by Parliament on Tuesday, May 30.
"I am waiting to read the full judgment of the Supreme Court, whenever it is made available, but there is no doubt that the decision, as announced on 17th May, 2023, flies in the face of many previously decided cases. We wait to see whether the words of the various Justices which I have quoted will be respected by the panel.
"Having made that point, let me make it clear to everyone that the most important thing to me right now is to contest and win the bye-election which is the result of what the Supreme Court announced on 17th May, 2023. I am determined to continue serving the good people of the Assin North with all my heart, soul, body and all the resources I can muster for the benefit of my constituents. I have been deeply touched by the amazing support and encouragement from you in the constituency after the Supreme Court decision on 17th May, 2023. I was particularly moved by your show of love and support through the vigil organized by the youth at Assin Bereku on Sunday 28th May, 2023. The massive attendance showed the depth of the support and encouragement I am receiving. I was really touched," he said in a statement.

This man paaa hmmm. Do you think NPP will set you free. No way they will jail you. Remember NDC started this game and jailed NPP member of parliament Adamu Sakande. So no matter what NPP will make sure you are in prison. Unless NDC win 2024 election and release you. If NDC loose 2024 election you will then you will be in jail for all your jail term.
The fact that the NDC as a party never rested until Adamu Sakande was jailed but still think that Quayson can’t go to jail and Quayson also following the party game plan is mind blowing. Dey play. Safe the little you have because no matter how long it takes, you will still go to jail.
Who advices this man? Are there no elders in his family? Is it political lack of wisdom or he was born lacking wisdom?

This thing is destined for jail!
Joe Quayson should think about the trauma his family and loved ones are experiencing and stop trying to put himself through unnecessary pain in doing time in prison. The attorney general might stop prosecuting his criminal case if he doesn’t stand again. There is no way that the Npp will allow him to be in parliament as we all know how politics is done in Ghana.
