Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known in music circles as Shatta Wale has called on the Government of Ghana to use music to promote Ghana's tourism.
A well-suited Shatta Wale, on Wednesday, June 2, held a 'State of the Nation Address' in his office to address the music challenges in Ghana.
He pointed out a number of challenges and offered solutions, hoping his colleague musicians and the music authorities will take note and apply accordingly.
Some proposals he made are that media houses, DJs and event organizers should prioritize Ghanaian music by according 90 percent of airplay to it and 10 percent can go for music from other countries, that the musicians should see the craft as business and make money out of it, decentralize music events and concerts across the nation to promote minority regions as well as encourage music investors to establish more music centers.
He further called for a national discourse and consensus to choose one music genre to represent Ghana.
Shatta Wale has also recommended that, "the leadership of the State to institute an agenda to use music as a tourism tool to promote the country. If the State can spend 10 percent of sports budget on music, I am sure it will set us on the road to global height''.
