Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew has announced tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) and is undergoing mandatory quarantine, the player has announced.

Ayew, who missed Crystal Palace's 1-1 draw with Brighton at the Selhurst Park on Sunday, said he was "feeling fine" and not suffering any symptoms.

The 29-year-old was involved in Ghana's friendly matches against Mali and Qatar during the international break and Palace manager, Roy Hodgson, confirmed post-match that the player had returned a positive test during the club's latest set of tests.

Sadly, I have tested positive for Covid-19 & have begun my quarantine in line with the health guidance.

Thankfully, I am feeling fine & do not have any symptoms 🙏🏾

I will be cheering the boys on from home & look forward to being back on the pitch soon 💪🏽🔴🔵

Stay safe 🙌🏾♥️

"I will be cheering the boys on from home & look forward to being back on the pitch soon."

Ayew becomes the latest Black Stars player to test positive for COVID-19 after Turkey-based Caleb Ekuban, who was on target in Ghana's 5-1 drubbing of Qatar in Turkey, left-back Gideon Mensah, Joseph Aidoo and midfielder Bernard Mensah also reportedly tested positive on their return to their clubs.

Black Stars management committee member Jones Abu Alhassan also tested positive at their training camp in Antalya, Turkey, and was detained to undergo mandatory quarantine.

The forward missed Crystal Palace's clash with Brighton on Sunday
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) says the team's contingent adhered to COVID-19 protocols before, during and after their stay in Turkey, with a minimum of three tests conducted on players, technical and management team members during the training camp.

In a statement on Sunday, the FA said no single positive test was recorded before the teams' first two games with Mali and Qatar, however one team official tested positive for the virus and isolated from the group a day before the team's departure from Turkey.

"The GFA ensured all FIFA COVID-19 protocols were strictly adhered to throughout the national team’s engagement and it is quite a concern that some members of the team have subsequently tested positive for the virus.

"The GFA will continue to monitor the situation and will provide all necessary support to the affected players while wishing them a speedy recovery," the statement said.
