Joy FM didn’t speak to "Mrs. John Pantsil", TotalShowbiz.com’s investigations have revealed.
It would be recalled that Joy FM’s Evans Mensah, host of Newsnight, interviewed a lady who claimed to be John Pantsil’s wife, Richlove Paintsil, and pleaded for privacy following reports that the Blackstars deputy captain had assaulted his wife and had been arrested.
Subsequently, myjoyonline.com published the following report:
“In a dramatic twist, Richlove Paintsil, wife of Black Stars defender John Paintsil has denied reports she was assaulted and stabbed by her husband.
She told Joy News it was only a domestic quarrel which must not be aired or published.”
It has however emerged that the lady who spoke to Evans Mensah on the Newsnight programme was not the wife of John Paintsil as reported by the reputable media house.
This was confirmed by Joy FM’s, Anny Osabutey.
Anny wrote on his facebook wall questioning the true identity of the purported Richlove Pantsil.
He wrote: “So, the woman who spoke to us (Joynews) on Friday claiming to be John Paintsil’s wife was lying to us? How on earth did she do that, and what was the motive, to protect the player? Was/is she a relative, a girlfriend or lunatic who wants her voice heard on radio? And why did the spokesperson corroborate the story that the wife had spoken? There are so many strands to this story…..come along with me.”
In a sharp response, BBC’s Akwasi Sarpong and Sammy Darko, one a former staff of the station and the other who is a broadcast journalist with Joy FM, questioned why the station failed to crosscheck the background of the said woman before interviewing her live on the Newsnight programme.
Akwasi Sarpong wrote: “Did the interviewer ask her on air what her relationship with Mr. P is? Did producers verify such before putting her on air?”
Sammy Darko also took a swipe saying “Dayo.. Good question to Anny…..you have yourself to blame if you failed to first establish her identity on air.. Not off air especially if the person called in….for live radio….I did not listen but if you did not question her identity again on air….#blameurself.”
Anny Osabutey further explained that while Joy FM was speaking to the fake Mrs. Painstil, the real Mrs. Painstil was in the hospital receiving treatment.
He posted a reply, after Akwasi Sarpong questioned him on facebook, that “a colleague on the sports desk says she’s never spoken to anyone. She tells me the lady was being treated at the time the said ‘Richlove was on the radio, trying to do a cover up antics. It’s sad.”
He added that “there was no way one could doubt where the call came from especially when a colleague spoke to her before passing on her number. What is even funny is the fact that the spokesperson continued to make reference to the fact that the woman had spoken and all is well with them. The information I’m sharing is simply one of privilege. The lady has not spoken to any media house, that I can tell. People have been there but the angle that the wife has spoken is still being played. Let’s see how it goes.”
More on this as the story unfolds but one thing that is for sure is that John Painstil’s family is doing the utmost best to protect their privacy and the information circulated in the media about the assault case.
