Reports reaching peacefmonline indicates that organizers of the MTN FA cup hatched a ploy to see archrivals Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko face-off in the finals because of the revenue the match can generate. More so, it was to boast the sponsors’ interest in the competition.
The FA Cup had lacked sponsorship over the past years leading to the break since 2001 but MTN coming onboard seems to be rejuvenated the second club competitions in the country. Past winners are reported to have given a bad name to the competitions as a defence of their title has not been impressive.
During the quarter final draw, the two most decorated clubs were separated strangely and will meet in the grand finals after defeat, Gold Stars and Eleven wise respectively yesterday in the quarters. Most of matches between Hearts and Kotoko attracted high stakes and dense stadium attendance. The two sides are also scheduled to play in their second leg league match on Sunday.
