Ex-Hearts of Oak captain Yaw Amankwah Mireku has suggested that the only way the Black Stars can win back home support is for them to play for free.
He believes this will end the apathy and get the national team back on track.
Players at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals went on strike and threatened to boycott their final Group match if they were not paid their appearance fees and bonuses.
That action infuriated Ghanaians and have seen turned their backs against the team as a result the decision to move matches from the traditional Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to Tamale.
''If I am with the Black Stars, the only advice I can give to the players is that, we caused this hatred and it was through the huge amount of money that we were demanding and as at now we not being able to win any trophy for the country so let all sacrifice to play the national team for free,'' Mireku told Asempa FM
''If you do this, you convince the whole country to support you because you are not in for the money and it will revive the supporting base again and it will be the same people that will call on the government and the FA to start paying the players but as at now the supporters have lost trust in the players.''

This is what baffles my mind when people who are supposed to know better are talking like serial callers. We live in a nation where Grass root Football is totally collapsed. The FA/Government doesn't care about developing talents. The league is nothing to write home about. We couldn't even get sponsorship to begin with. look at how curuption is the other of the day in our league centres. We have the FA who is fighting with the Sports Ministry. Yet we blame Avram for everything? We can't be serious. I heard Kwaku Yeboah asking coach Sarpong if Avram Grant been organising training for local coaches as part of what the FA contracted him to do. And he said no! Must this be organised by Avram or must the FA have programme for the year where it will be mandatory for the coach to do that? In any serious community; Job Descriptions are given; Targets are Set and Plans are laid to achieve the Targets. Check with with all the Advanced FAs and you will testify to what I'm talking about. It sad to hear some of this so called Sports Presenters and how they analyse and criticise. I hope they will sit one day and listen to how F00OLISH they sound with their arguments and submissions. Instead of channelling the opportunity to call for accountability and grass root development of the game with all the money people have been squandering, they just talk about the coach this, the coach that! How can you build a better house without a good foundation? I remember all the various radio presenters calling for Avram Grant to stay in Ghana, what must he stay to monitor? Any games ongoing in Ghana? How many local players are in the national team? The local league is collapsed but we don't hold anybody accountable. Where are the Cost Leagues? All lands are sold for stores and properties. SAD for Ghana!!
We are being very unfair to and blackmailing of the Black Stars. And it is a shame that a former player will suggest this. What wrong have the stars done?
So all the troubles were caused by the players? Wao! No wonder we are still getting things wrong. What kind of logic is this? Ask Rev Osei Kofi and his colleagues. Personally, I think people are looking at is entering the players' pockets too much.
