A top member of the football governing body believes there is currently no native worthy of the Black Stars job.
Black Stars Management Committee vice chairman Wilfred Kweku Osei says no Ghanaian coach is currently "well-positioned" to manage the national outfit.
The four-time African champions are looking to name a new coach in the coming days following the departure of Israeli Avram Grant last month.
There is public clamour for a native to be handed the job, amid speculations that former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is close to sealing a comeback.
“We know it’s been a while we won the Africa Cup of Nations trophy, so we don’t have any excuse than to appoint a competent coach who can satisfy the need of the Ghanaians because I don’t think we will like to only participate at Afcon 2019 in Cameroon,” Osei, who is also a member of the GFA Executive Committee, told Asempa Sports.
“It doesn’t necessarily mean that we should give the job to a Ghanaian, but if we have a Ghanaian coach who has positioned himself over the years that he needs the Black Stars job, I think he should be given the role."
All four of Ghana's Afcon triumphs have come under the tutelage of local coaches, among them is Fred Osam-Duodu, who masterminded the 1978 feat.
“I am told that after Osam Duodu finished his [coaching] course in Germany, the country spent on him to become a well-groomed coach and we saw the impact he brought into our league and the national team," Osei said.
“The question is, do we have a coach who has gone through the processes Osam Duodu passed through?
“For me, we don’t have any local coach that can handle the Black Stars.
"We have the likes of Ibrahim Tanko and Otto Addo who are qualified to do the job but in terms of experience, they are nowhere near Osam Duodo and other coaches that have passed away."
Reports says former France defender Willy Sagnol, together with Appiah, will be interviewed by the Ghana Football Association between Friday and Sunday before a final decision is reached.
Goal understands that a third coach, an unnamed expatriate, is also under consideration.

is black stars coach going to paid by the tax payer ? If the answer is yes then if the FA refuse to give it to a black coach then they should look for their own money and pay him because we can not waste our money like that else we will demonstrate against them they should prepare to meet us the citizens .Enough of the wastage this ***barred word*** must stop once and for all
l am disappointed in you. You must immediately resign from your position for a white man to take over your job. What do you mean? You and your surrogates sit on top of GFA/FA and are able to control everybody including the white coach, their assistance and the twenty something foreign players then why can't a black coach handle the black stars.
It is true. And I don't see why Nyantakyi and co qualify to hold FA posts. They should all give way for white people to take over. Even Nana Addo should resign for a foreigner to rule us.
How can we continue doing the same thing over and over and over and over again, and expect to achieve different results. What has any so-called world class coach brought to the nation, in terms of laurels. Take a local coach and pay him the world class money he deserves and at the very least that money will stay in the economy, our local leagues might improve and we will be more prouder as a nation. FIFA does not give money because we are the third best-placed African country in their rankings. They give money because we placed third or participated in the world cup. Same with CAF. Let us sit up as a nation and plan for the longer term. What happened to the starlets, satelittes, etc.
Then you the Wilfred, I don't you are fit to hold your position. Give it to a foreign person. Why is the black man so black in his brain???? What did the foreign do so unique and what cup have they even been able to win for this country all these years. Shame on those lazy and ***barred word*** GFA officials who think they are demigods. They think they deserve everything they enjoy there and no one else in Ghana is fit to be part of it. Until this country gets a Ghanaian coach to be with the black stars and support him fully in down times and success times, we will never and I repeat NEVER win any cup, be it CAF or world CUP.
We need to identify some local coaches like Kwesi Appiah and Sly Tetteh and systematically upgrade them to world class before giving them the senior national team to handle. In the mean time, we must engage a coach who is clearly ahead, even of Avram Grant. The last AFCON exposed us in several respects. The technical team was bankrupt; some key players who were returning from injury had not fully recovered, while about four others were not even ripe for the senior team. The playing body as a whole could not maintain tactical discipline for any sustained periods. Luck was on our side and if we had put in just a little more, we could have triumphed. If we wish to achieve anything better than what we did at the last AFCON, we must build a truly competent technical team and beef up the playing body with our very best players.
With this pronouncement, you can be sure that Wilfred Kweku Osei and his likes will undermine Kwesi Appiah if he is appointed. Wouldn't it be better for Kwesi Appiah to stay in Sudan?
if the people handling football in Ghana have this mindset, where are we heading as a country. Sometimes i wonder what we use to measure the success or otherwise of a couch or the competence or otherwise of a couch. What was our position on the FIFA ranking before Avram Grant took over and what was our position before he left? As an FA member, is he happy how football is being run in the country? Does he have what it takes to be an FA member? Someone should please tell him to stop disturbing our peace
I can't agree with you more. If the management qualify why not a Ghanaian to coach? They all needs to be sacked for not having any proper plan to develop our own. They are the cause of the abysmal performance by our teams. Look at the junior teams, and you will know they are rather killing the football in the country.
Wilfred Kweku Osei, you are not fit to be an FA Management member either, considering the fact that you have paid so much money to foreign coaches, who has not even sent Ghana to a final in any major tournament. Also, you have failed to develop the local coaches to make them competitive, and you have the guts to tell us that we are incomepetent. This means that the current FA, has outlived its usefulness, coupled with the scandals that Ghanaian referees have encountered themselves in, with a life ban on one, it means that you should all be sacked, and bring white men to come and manage our FA, and even our governance system. You must all resign dishonorably and be probed for your actions or inactions, always blaming people. You people have failed us badly. Whether Kwasi Appiah is good or not, we like him like that, he will get better if you give him the chance and support him.
