Former Black Stars and Bayern Munich defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour, has thrown cold water on the chances of the Black Stars winning AFCON 2019.
In an interview with the press, the former AS Roma center back suggested that the team should rather concentrate on winning AFCON 2021.
According to him, it will be a daunting task to win AFCON 2019, hence the need to grow the game in order for the team to win the ultimate in 2021.
He added that there is the need for the coach to be allowed to put in place his plan, system, and concept that will win the nation the trophy.
He questioned the level of performance of players in the country which, in his opinion, is low. He advised managers of the game to devise means to improve the output of players.
He also expressed disappointment in his inability to win an AFCON trophy after playing in five tournaments.
Samuel Osei Kuffour was an integral member of the Black Stars team that played at the 2006 World Cup, hosted by Germany.

SINCE 1978 I HAVE NOT ENTERED THE KUMASI SPORTS STADIUM BECAUSE, IN MY OWN JUDGEMENT THERE IS/ARE NO PLAYERS TO GO AND WATCH. PEOPLE GO TO STADIUM TO WATCH PLAYERS PLAY, BUT THERE ARE NO PLAYERS THERE TO WATCH.IF YOU HAVE INDIVIDUALS OWNING TEAMS WHAT COMES OUT OF THE LEAGUE CURUPTIONS AND MATCH BUYING.
The truth is the truth. I don't know what has happened to Ghana soccer. When you read about world sports and you come across the names like Ousmane Dembélé, Kylian Mbappé ,Renato Sanches Marcus Rashford, etc . To name but a few, that are commanding world class market value, you ask yourself "so no Ghanaian boy plays soccer much better than any of this boys currently?". This is the state of Ghana soccer and unless something is done the 2021 Cup of Nations would only be a mirage. There is something fundamentally wrong with Ghana Soccer, of which I don't know. And unless this flaw is identified and fixed, we shouldn't expect any CUPS soon. Another thing that saddens me is that, whenever you find yourself overseas, foreigners identify with you as being from a very good soccer nation but is that true?
the truth hurts but it must be told. thank you, sam
