There is no evidence to initiate criminal prosecution against former Ghana football boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi, the country’s Attorney General (AG) and Minister for Justice, Gloria Akuffo has revealed.
Calls for the prosecution of the former FIFA Council member has heightened in the West African country after he was shown in a documentary allegedly taking kickbacks.
The image of Nyantakyi has been battered after an investigative piece by controversial Ghanaian journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas revealed widespread corruption in the game.
The former Ghana football leader is under criminal investigations in the powerful African nation but it has emerged prosecutors are struggling to build a case which critics say exposes the ugly reality of the local game.
And the country’s legal adviser to the ruling government, Gloria Akuffo has revealed there is no evidence to prosecute the embattled former FA top official.
“I have not received any docket for prosecution. It would be recalled that when the issues started, the CID started a probe. The probe is still ongoing and when they forward anything to me, I will look at it,’’ she said on Rainbow Radio in Accra on Thursday.
She explained that until her office is furnished with adequate evidence on the matter “there is nothing she could do” as far as prosecution is concerned.
“You need evidence to proceed to court and at the moment, I have not received anything from the investigators,” she insisted.
The Ghanaian has been forced to resign from his roles at CAF and FIFA following the scandalous exposé as he fights to redeem an image which has been bruised beyond measure.
Nyantakyi, who has been GFA president since 2005 and was elected to the FIFA Council in September 2016, was filmed in a hotel room appearing to take a $65,000 bribe from a supposed businessman seeking to sponsor the Ghanaian football league.
The Anas exposé has brought football on its knees after government backtracked on attempts to dissolve the Ghana Football Association.
FIFA has announced it will form a Normalisation Committee to oversee the running of football for the next six months.

Are we supposed to be surprised by this? Not at all. We live in a place where you can get away with anything once you have money. We have MPs supporting corrupt acts openly and there's no power to bring them to justice. Soon Ghana will be Banana Republic. A whole Attorney Generals Department was broken into just to let people get away with their crimes and no one is being questioned. Tweaaaaa!!! Some country!
the issue is very simple, now Ghanaians and the govt is not ready to follow and prosecute based on Anas' video blindly esp when it has been revealed that Anas himself is the most climinal entity. again Anas charged nyantakyi $15000 to drop the video. he cldnt meet the demand and gave $100000 of which Kwaku baako said the money was with a particular lawyer (I hope is not Egbert). all these shd be indicators to warn any govt to be law abiding and thread cautiously.
So it is true he has the president in his pocket! Its simple She should be bold to tell us that if she prosecute him the president wouold be exposed big time. people are paying gate fees to see the president and all the things he said would be brought to bare.
