Ghanaian broadcast journalist Michael Tuffour has admitted fabricating a sex story about the Black Stars during Ghana’s unsuccessful 2019 AFCON campaign in Egypt.
According to a publication on Kasapafmonline.com – the media house of the broadcaster, the journalist lowered his ethical standards as he failed to cross-check his facts before making the publication.
A Kasapa FM publication read: “On July 9, 2019, It was reported that some Black Stars players allegedly busily engaged themselves in sexual bouts before every match during their short stay in the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Some of the players reportedly lodged their girlfriends in the same hotel they camped in, sneaking to have sex, a practice some believe accounted for their poor performance at the tournament.
However, after Kasapa FM’s Sports Journalist Michael Tuffour aka Ariel Otega who’s covering the tournament in Egypt reported the alleged incidence and it’s subsequent publication online, it turned out that he didn’t cross-check his fact.”
Tuffour reported earlier on Tuesday following the Black Stars elimination against Tunisia that some of the Black Stars players indulged in sexual activities before playing games.
The wild allegations did not reflect the situation on the grounds in the Black Stars camp as players remained focused and dedicated before matches.
Ghana topped Group F, beating Cameroon, and Benin to the top spot but succumbed to a 5-4 penalty defeat against Tunisia following a 1-1 drawn game within regulation time with the extra time failing to produce a winner.

We know the truth. People have power and the money to change the truth and that is what is happening with this reporter. However, he should have stood his grounds to defend the truth. He was probably paid to change the story or he was threatened in one way or the other. Whichever way, it tarnishes the image and reduces trust in journalists. This is really disappointing to say the least!
Now, GJA, what happens to a journalist who publishes false stories about innocent people? He goes scot-free after just a half-hearted apology, abi? No statement from GJA? What will happen if such a journalist is taken by National Security for questioning?
Not surprised at all. Most of today's Sports journalists especially the local language media are illiterates.
APOLOGY ACCEPTED BUT HE NEEDS TO BE PUNISHED.
Tuffour is disgraceful to journalism fraternity. What is the President of the association saying about that ***barred word*** reporting. There are thousand and one dirty reporters in the system. Once they get chance to talk, they open mouth any how, likewise reporting. All reporters should be asked to obtain license. They are not better than any body
have u seen y they beat yu people how can u spoil or tarnish their image like that . hm God have mercy on u. u think they dont have r relatives or lovers
In the name of freedom of the press, journalist are abusing us and the silence of the journalist association is so loud.If it is the other way round, we will hear the association disturbing us with journalist are being attacked. If some of us attack these players based on this ***barred word*** information that this so called journalist reported what will have happend to this apology. The way some of you practice your journalism, if you are not check it can lead the country into civil war. Press freedom does not mean your freely write things or say anything without checking your facts. The sad aspect is that some of the senior ones also behave same.
