Ghana held Nigeria to a goalless draw in the first leg of the 2022 Fifa World Cup final qualifying fixture on Friday.
As expected in a fully-packed Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the Black Stars made an aggressive start to the encounter but the Super Eagles were solid to resist the hosts’ attacking threats.
In the absence of suspended Andre Ayew, Roma youngster Felix Ohene-Gyan led Ghana's attack while Lorient's Innocent Bonke joined Joe Aribo in Nigeria's midfield and Leon Balogun formed a partnership with William Troost-Ekong at the centre of the defence.

I have not liked this team of players because of their dismal performance in Cameroun and the over-concentration of foreign-based players. For this two-leg encounter with Nigeria, it would have been better if Ghana had assembled a team of players from our league plus Thomas Partey only as the “external” one. The Stars played quite well but could not score whereas we have potent strikers in our league; Okraku why? I am skeptical about our chances but we can pray for a miracle and wish them well. However, in my most skeptical and doubting self/state, I could not have descended into the gutter the way Odi Ahenkan and Yaw Kesse did that day prior to the match. I cannot fathom how these “self-righteous” and “let us build our country” presenters can mobilize “against supporters” against their country’s interest using live radio!! Their conduct was reckless, lawless, reprehensible, ***barred word*** and unpatriotic. Elsewhere, the two and their conduct could be sufficient cause of action in criminal and civil proceedings against them. I don’t think I can listen to Yaw Kesse again as a morning show host. This irresponsible conduct of his cannot be reconciled with any pontifications he makes again on nation-building. Same with Ahenkan, the self-styled Aboabo burger, who is fast gaining notoriety for his empty-barrel and populist presentations at the hour workers are supposed to have a soothing mind on their way home from work. Ahenkan should conduct a listener survey and he would be shocked by the landslide result that people have stopped listening to his show in the late afternoon and would prefer a Micky. Reason is simple: he has become overbearing with his populist approach/presentations that have the potential to incite people, unjustifiably, against all levels authority across the country. He should be careful he doesn’t fall on his own successes. My final word is to the managers of 104.3, PEACE FM. We love and will continue to listen to you largely because you inform, educate and entertain your listeners within reasonable confines of the law. May I, however, remind you of what happened to the managers/directors of that Radio Gold when some equally reckless, lawless and ***barred word*** presenters decided to throw away caution and ethical competence one otherwise fine afternoon in GH. “Mpanyin se; ebi asi da enti na wose hwe eye”!!.
