Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League after losing 3-1 on penalties to 2021/22 Burkina Faso Premier League title-holders RC Kadiogo.
The Porcupine Warriors went into the second-leg tie with a 1-0 victory from the first-leg clash in Benin following Isaac Oppong’s impressive last-gasp finish.
However, Kadiogo who beat Kotoko in similar fashion in 1979, cancelled the deficit as early as the 15th minute with a nice finish.
Kotoko fought to pull parity and secure qualification to the next round of the CAF top-tier competition but the Burkinabes remained resolute in defence.
The game headed for shootout after the end of regulation time and the 4-time Burkina Faso champions became triumphant in the game.
