The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Ghana has announced the passing of Christian Atsu, the former Black Stars winger.
According to a statement, Atsu's body was discovered under rubble on Saturday, February 18, 2023, following a 12-day search by rescue teams.
Atsu was among the many victims of the catastrophic earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 45,000 lives.

This comes after almost 12 days of tortuous search by a rescue team," the statement read.
"The Ghana Embassy in Türkiye which conveyed the sad news, indicates that the body was recovered early this morning, Saturday 18th February, 2023. The elder brother and twin sister of Christian Atsu and an Officer of the Embassy were present at the site when the body was recovered."

A black Saturday for Ghana football. Considering the unfortunate circumstances under which he passed on, a state burial will not be asking too much from the government. In an attempt to seek greener pastures to guarantee a secured future for himself and family a natural disaster comes in to truncate his ambitions. Who are we to challenge God. My advice to African footballers plying their trade in Europe and elsewhere is that they should always consider marrying from their home country. Am told he's married to a white lady. Looking at the age of his children how often will they visit when they grow up. If they end update taking citizenship of their mother's home country, that will be the end. When was the last time you heard of the children of late U N Secretary General Kofi Annan, Kwesi Ndoum and other prominent personalities married to white ladies? Condolences to the bereaved family.
