All is set for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Ghana’s Economic Management Team (EMT) to hold the maid Town Hall Meeting (THM) in Ghana. Ahead of the meeting many Ghanaians have expressed their views, largely welcoming the move by government and describing it as a novelty that is good for the progress of the country.
Information gathered by Peacefmonline.com indicates that Ghanaians will be asking questions bordering on import duties, the exchange rate, matters on energy, the broader economy, and government’s flagship projects.
Again, hopes are high that the Vice President, who has been known to be a champion of Ghana’s digital revolution will shed more light on how and why he and government intend to make Ghana the digital hub of the West African sub-region. Ghanaians believe that if government is able to address the problems of high import duties and the blips on the currency market it will crown the efforts it has put in place to restore the economic mess they inherited in 2016.
The Town Hall Meeting is slated for Wednesday, 3rd April 2019 at the Physicians & Surgeons Hall at 10am in Accra. The Economic Management Team (EMT) is a body set by various governments, at least from the time of President Kuffour and usually chaired by the siting Vice President to steer the affairs of the economy.
Under this regime, President Akufo-Addo set up the nine (9) member EMT in February 2017 chaired by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo as the Vice Chair. Other members are Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta (Finance Minister), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto (Agric Minister), Hon. John Peter Amewu (Energy Minister), Prof. George Gyan Baffour (Minister for Planning), Hon. John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen (Minister for Trade and Industry), Dr. Anthony Akoto-Osei (Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation), and Prof. Joe Amoako-Tuffour (the Secretary).
According to members of the Economic Management Team, they meet every week (Tuesdays) and invite various government agencies, the private sector and different stakeholders to have fruitful discourses that shape government economic policies.
"So far, there is no doubt that the EMT’s efforts have helped to shape well policies of the government and delivered on key economic milestones of President Akufo-Addo’s government," said the Secretary to the EMT, Joe Amoako-Tuffour.
According to some members of the EMT, the Town Hall Meeting is part of the broader scope of President Akufo-Addo’s government to enhance inclusive governance and bottom-up decision making.
Spokesperson to the Vice President, Dr Gideon Boako, who doubles as a member of the EMT Secretariat, indicated that the Town Hall Meeting will be largely questions and answers based to enable the Ghanaian people the chance to be heard and be part of government decision processes.

It takes people with a bit of brain cells in their head to appreciate the value of such govt-public interactions. Fellow Ghanaians, pls be patient, there will be light at the end of the tunnel soon. Allow Nana to build the nation on sound policies an interventiins and it will take a while to yield fruits. We do not want the Komenda Sugar factory approach where a factory is commissioned for production before we start to clear the site for planting the feedstock(sugar cane)
Does the economic guru need all these people by his side?
This is just a waste of fund and time. What will tbe Veep has to say which is different than what the finance Minister has said in Parliament. We do not thrive on talk show but results that we can feel. The Veep should not further muddy his reputation with empty talk while Ghanaian suffer
Hey, nyimpa tum dzi akohwi say? The finance minister organized a party for pumping dollars into the system, and went round to say emphatically that this is what is going to stabilize the cedi. Today, the spokesperson for the vice president says the pumping of dollars into the economy is not the reason but certain measures. Measures that can only be explained by barwumia. My prayer is that nana addo should not say he is not running again, because with barwuliar, npp may not get even 30% of the national votes because he lies too much. He us going to worsen his soured reputation with further lies tomorrow, while a president who claims to be building a cathedral for God is intoxicated with whiskey on his birthday. This is where Ghana has come to, our president is enjoying apio.
Oh now he's coming with economic management team? I thought ALL WISDOM resides in his head???
They are organizing theoretical economic meeting that will not reveal any practical economic sense. They have nothing to offer, as for bawumia, he is just a looser big time, his economic fundamentals are weaker than anything I have ever seen)
Prophet Dr Alhaji Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and destroyer in chief of the National Democratic Criminals, you are most welcome. Hehehehehehehe

This is long over due. Dr.Bawumia we Ghanaians want you to tell us something. Tell us what you have been doing. The Ndc lies are too many.
