The Chief Justice Her Ladyship Georgina Theodora Wood will start her retirement on Wednesday June 7, 2017 after serving a ten-year term.
She is the first woman to have occupied that position, all the chief justices Ghana have had were all males.
A thanksgiving service was done in her honour at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Accra on Tuesday June 6, 2017, which witnessed people from the clergy, politicians, lawyers and others. The ceremony brought together officials of Ghana’s justice system, the clergy, politicians, family, friends and the general public to draw the curtain down on her 10-year tenure as Chief Justice.
The service was graced by notables in the judiciary and legislature like the new Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo; Justice Jones Dotse; the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Michael Ocquaye; the Minority Leader, Haruna Idrissu, among others.
Justice Sophia A.B Akuffo takes over from her.

Ayeeko, have a very restful retirement
We hope you will not completely retire, but will continue to play an active role in Ghanaian public life. And wishing all the best to Chief Justice Akuffo as she steps into the former Chief Justice's shoes. May God continue to strengthen you in wisdom and courage to uphold the laws of our dear country, defend our legal institutions without fear or favour, and build and consolidate the legal framework of Ghana. A country with a dependable, efficient and secure legal system is a country that thrives.
