Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says the government remains focussed on building a society that works not only for a few but everybody.
They were delivering on the promises they made to Ghanaians and that there was sufficient evidence to that effect.
“We’re going to see some major changes in 2019, where we will begin full-scale operation of the Sino-hydro facility.”
The Vice President announced that from next year, US$1.5 billion of the US$2 billion Sino-hydro Barter Agreement signed with the Chinese firm would be utilised.
The money would be used to build health facilities and road infrastructure - bridges, drains and interchanges.
“Apart from cleaning the mess of incompetent economic management that alone is worth in itself, and we are putting in place the structures that will enable us to deliver”, he added.
Vice President Bawumia was addressing the closing ceremony of a capacity-building programme for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) held at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Accra.
The five-day training programme was held under the theme: “Re-energising MMDCEs to deliver on Government Agenda” and brought together 254 MMDCEs across the country and some selected Regional Ministers.
They were taken through revenue mobilisation, data sharing, leadership skills, decentralisation, preparations towards the MMDCEs elections and how to implement the government’s flagship initiatives.
The Vice President said they had made significant progress in the management of the economy over the past 20 months.
The macro-economic indicators had recorded impressive improvement and he made reference to the year-on-year inflation which had declined from 15.4 per cent in 2016 to 9.9 currently and the reduction of the debt to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio from 73.1 per cent to 64.4 per cent.
The economy also grew from 3.7 per cent in 2016 to 8.5 per cent at the end of 2017 and the fiscal deficit was down to 5.9 per cent from 9.3 per cent, and he said, these had come on the back of prudent management of the economy

Can anyone dispute these figures !!! ???
Someone should advise this man to stop talking and sinking the NPP.
Lies, never cease lying
We have witnessed single digit inflation during the NDC era, but these fundamentals slipped through their hands during 2012 elections.Just make sure you do not overspend during the 2020 elections. Then we will know you are managing the economy prudently.
As for barwuliar, he is an expired product. God was revealing to him that he has expired that's why he made him shared expired products to flood victims. If you are a serial liar, expiry products will expose you. Imagine this liar becomes a president, we will all die with expired goods. He wouldn't mind importing expired chicken to Ghana.
You talk too much. Do some work. Interesting times. I loved the free SHS so much when nana addo announced it, but i never expected it to face so much problems. Yes, problems are in inevitable in every new project or policy being introduced, however i think nana addo rushed the program. You can't just take over power and all of a sudden without wide stakeholder consultation and discussion go ahead and introduce such a very important policy. At least the third year of your tenure could have made the free SHS the best. This is because you could have spoken to a lot of educational experts, could have built enough building in three years, could have trained enough teachers and could have eliminated virtually all major bottlenecks, then students would enjoy the free SHS and you will get you votes as you wish. As it is now parents are speaking against it because some of them are paying for hostels as well as extra classes for their wards. Others are moving their students to private schools and paying huge sums of money because of fear of poor quality and outbreak of diseases. Most first year students are not fed good food because they don't pay and as a result these students are likely to vote against npp in the next election. Though npp introduced this for votes it is certain the problems of free SHS would rather make them lose votes. I don't blame nana addo, i blame NAPO, EDUTWUM AND BARWUMIA. They are the cause of this problems, they should have exercised some restraint before implementation.
