Former President Jerry John Rawlings has urged the leadership of the Assemblies of God Church to enquire from the honourable Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu what may be holding him up from delivering his mandate.
Speaking on Wednesday during a courtesy call by the church leadership to inform him of the demise of their former General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Simon Asore, the former President said men like Asore who upheld a very high level of integrity cannot die in vain.
He said a delay in identifying and prosecuting corrupt acts by public figures will lead to impunity and the further perpetuation of crime and corruption.
“I wonder what is holding him up. We do not want to see the perpetuation of crime. We don’t want to see crimes being committed with impunity. The power of virtue must override the power of vice,” the former President said.
Flt Lt Rawlings said after all President Akufo-Addo had also stated that he’s expecting the Special Prosecutor to deliver on his mandate when he (Martin Amidu) is ready.
Former President Rawlings paid tribute to Rev Asore who was a member of the Council of State from 1996 to 2000, describing him as a quiet and self-respecting man of serious integrity and discipline.
Recalling why Reverend Asore was invited into the Council of State, the former President said:
“We were searching for somebody with honour. Some of the tools needed to take out the rustiness were themselves rusty then, but he was a refreshing man of integrity whose spirituality was very high.”
Earlier the leader of the delegation, Rev. Dr. Harry Insaidoo had expressed gratitude to former President Rawlings for the role he played in bringing Rev. Asore to the public limelight. He also thanked the government for arranging a state funeral for the departed former General Superintendent.
Rev. Insaidoo said the late Reverend Asore never pursued materialism and worked hard to expand the church from 250 missions to almost 1900 missions during his tenure as head of the church.
An associate of the former President, Dr. Anthony Dzegede, described Reverend Asore as a selfless man who fulfilled a great commission and left a legacy unlike the charlatans who instead of feeding the sheep, feed on the sheep.

MR MARTIN SLOW DOWN I KNOW THE PRESSURE IS GREAT GHANAIANS SLOW DOWN EVERTHING HAS ITS TIME GOD BLESS AMEN
Those replying to ama are all ***barred word***. They don't know what they are talking about. Rawlings doesn't speak against nana addo, so if he is raising this question then of course, he knows something.
Mind you JJ is any Ghanaian who loves and is eager to see citizen vigilante in action.
Mr. Amidu also said he would not rush with any case before him for prosecution until he had strong evidence to back it, in order to avoid being tagged as indulging in witch-hunting by any political party or any individual affected. I believe strongly that, Martin has no cause to resign today or tomorrow. Therefore, any thought of his resigning soon or later is just wishful thinking of those who feel uncomfortable about his stance and steadfast rule against corruption.
Mr. JJ had said in public before that NDC Mahama-Administration was most corrupt ever. It is a well-known fact in the public that, there are many clear corrupt allegations against the previous Administration with clear evidence for prosecution and the public is not happy about the delay. Mr. Amidu as we all know is bold, confident, firm in spirit and mind and nobody and I repeat nobody can control him remotely or directly in terms of doing his work and what according to his conviction is right. And that is why our President appointed him beyond typical Ghanaian Party-political affiliation. Martin would have been a hypocrite if he drew his confidence from JJ before he came public.
If Rawlings is raising these questions then he is privy to something that Martin Amidu has told him. Martin may not be able to go public because of his position, as for okro mouth Rawlings he can voice it out. JJ is playing smart, he doesn't want to be seen as criticizing nana addo for his appointees ineptitude so he is playing safe by just raising legitimate questions, and start a public discussion. I think amidu may resign sooner or later.
same question I keep asking. Amidu was doing very well until they gave him this position. Was it meant to cripple him or he was a wrong choice? Well I think he is a wrong choice. All he wanted was to get mahama out of power which he has achieved. why will he want to destroy the party he loved soo much? we should not expect anything from him because he will take 100 years to prosecute one case. It is time Ghanaians realize that NPP and NDC are the same. their only agenda is to keep us divided so that they will have the chance to continue stealing what belongs to all of and sharing it among themselves. we need to wake up be4 it is too late.
I thought Martin was your DARLING? or? please call him and ask him.
coming news all ghana for nana, nana performance is best in the world, mahama is the worst so call leader ghana has known, all ghana vote for nana come 2020, gh pp, nana addo 80% mahama 0%,
