The Chief Executive Officer of the Intercity State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has poked fun at the organizers of the 'Kume Preko' protest held on Saturday, November 5, 2022.
Throng of protesters went out on the streets of the capital city wielding placards with various inscriptions to register their displeasure with the Akufo-Addo administration.
The leader of the demonstration, Lawyer Martin Kpebu says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should resign.
Reacting during Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Nana Akomea found the demonstration purposeless and a waste of one's time.
To him, the demonstration flopped because of what he would describe as ridiculous demands by the organizers that the First Gentleman and the Veep should step down.
Directing a message to the organizers, the STC Boss stated "forcing a President to resign isn't in the constitution".
"If they had gone on the demonstration because life has become hard, there wouldn't have been any problem. In fact, they would have had many people to join them. But a demonstration to force the President to resign is preposterous," he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
"Is this a demonstration to attend?", he asked in laughter.

There is something fundamentally wrong about how speculation or perception is relied upon to take hold of real facts when you hear some academics, lawyers, and politicians make certain statements to argue out their stances at the expense of informed opinions. I believe there is a lot of intellectual dishonesty in our political space in Ghana. Or do we make incorrect assumptions? We wrongly measure the intellect of people by their level of proficiency in the Queen's language. When such people fail to effectively or intellectually communicate their views, they tend to be insulting and spew lies. Unfortunately, such characters abound in the NDC and their cohorts in the paid press. They are the elements that have jumped on the president, calling him names and hurling insults at him after his candid address. The Ghanaian economy has structural problems that are inherited from our colonial past. There is a lot of intellectual dishonesty here when you hear some pundits of the economics speak about the current challenges as if they are solely the result of the mess of the Akufo-Addo administration, if there is any at all. Meanwhile, the Akufo-Addo administration is the only one in the Fourth Republic to have made a concerted effort to target the structural deficit of the economy. Specifically, FSHS, 1D1F, and the railroad infrastructure, just to name a few. However, the Kufuor administration laid some remarkable trails. The same cannot be said of any NDC administration making a targeted policy to resolve the structural problems except vilification of its political opponents. Ghana beyond the aid agenda is a policy direction, and some dishonest elements seek to ridicule it as a mere slogan. By the way, Ghana's tourism has realized a remarkable boost in the recent times of the Akufo-Addo-Administration. The president made it clear in his speech that we are in crisis, and I see the pandemic and the Ukraine war as the last straw that broke the camel’s back given our unsustainable economic structures.
"Asking both the president and vice president to resign is actually wrong." Yet the leader of the demonstration is a prominent lawyer. He claims to be sincere with his course, and it is not parochial in outlook. I believe he can only tell it to the Mariens if he is not being intellectually dishonest.
Deep Reflection! I am beginning to understand that the Paying of tithes is just like E-levy, every new hand (receiver) is expected to pay something (smh). The church and the government of Ghana is the same. They are all scammers, or something is not being done right. This is the reason why the government is not able to control the churches and the leaders of churches are also afraid and/or fail to speak up about the government. They are all doing the same exact things. Let's all speak truth to power. What about if we decide to have religious representation in parliament? What about if the government institute an entity that would audit churches? The mega corporate churches in Ghana (all you know their names and don’t force me to mention any church) are the biggest culprit of the spiral depreciating value of our once strong cedi. Trust you me, almost all churches in Ghana have some sort of forex account (predominantly, dollar, pound, Euros). The same offerings and tithes are used as a weapon to devalue our currency because, these collections in cedi values from churches are changed into the hard currencies. Is the government not aware of these? Passing of a bill or amending parts of our constitution and backed by stringent penalties will help in diversifying power in more hands and strengthening our institutions. I believe none of these bodies (churches and the government) would be afraid to discharge its core constitutionally mandated duties without fear or favor. Guess what? A true and pure checks and balances would be injected into our social, political, religious, and economic landscape. The church remains the biggest institution with the largest human capital and perhaps the biggest revenue generation. How can a country that is serious, would decide not to have any policy or law to regulate the activities of the largest organization within her territorial borders? I hope someone will listen to this. God save our Nation. God save our country. God heal our land.
